Pacquiao vs Marquez: Threat of a Lawsuit Won't Make Pacman Lose Focus

Nicholas GossNov 3, 2011

While Manny Pacquiao is training for his major fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, he has been hit with another distraction outside of the ring. Angel Hernandez, who is the strength and conditioning coach for Marquez, has threatened a lawsuit against Alex Ariza, who is Pacquiao's trainer.

"I would like to say through this medium and the public that logically, we are preparing a lawsuit for defamation against Mr. Alex Ariza," Hernandez said, his words translated from Spanish.  "On his behalf, the declarations he has made are very direct. I think they’re very prejudicial not just with respect toward the image of Juan Manuel Marquez, but for mine as his physical trainer."

This fight just got a whole lot more interesting, and it's just another distraction for Pacquiao.

Lawsuits are serious business, and with the issue of steroids having been in the boxing news recently, these lawsuits can have heavy implications.

Pacquiao must continue to train and focus on this fight, because this is a major bout for him. Beating Marquez would really help his legacy and cement himself as arguably the best fighter of the last 10 years.

This fight is huge for the sport. Without a Mayweather-Pacquiao bout, the sport needs a major fight to boost popularity.

Marquez won't go down easy, and he will go down swinging if he must. Pacquiao will have to show excellent stamina and strength to beat him.

Knocking out Marquez would make Pacman the most popular boxer on the planet, and hopefully, it would give him the confidence and need to someday soon fight Floyd Mayweather.
