LSU vs. Alabama: Twitterverse Predictions for the SEC Showdown

Zachary D. RymerNov 3, 2011

By the time LSU and Alabama reach the conclusion of their contest on Saturday, the world could very well explode. I actually believe that's a prop bet in Las Vegas at the moment.

Whether or not the world actually explodes, it's going to be an incredible game. LSU is the No. 1 team in the country, Alabama is No. 2, and both teams boast defenses that would stand a good chance in a fight against a Sherman tank.

In fact, both of these defenses would probably beat the crap out of a Sherman tank.

When it comes to a game like this, everyone has a prediction. Why don't we hit the Twitterverse for a magical mystery tour of some of the very best?

Let's start with the meticulously calculated prediction from everyone's favorite goofball, San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson.

Wilson thinks LSU is going to win, and he uses Forrest Gump to illustrate his point:

Get it? Because Forrest Gump would be that much more awesome. Right?

I think that's his point. Can't say I believe it seeing as how Forrest Gump can't get any more awesome than it already is.

Naturally, New Orleans Saints rookie running back and former Alabama Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram disagrees. Guess who he's rooting for:

It sure would be great if we could get a retort from LSU alum Shaquille O'Neal, but he's being oddly silent about the big game.

Because of that, he has unfortunately left himself open to having Dick Vitale tell him what's what:

As for what the media thinks of the big game, it sounds like somebody at ESPN is a big fan of 'Bama. Here's a thought from ESPN Insider Will Harris, passed along by a fan:

This writer is less sure, though he admits that LSU needs a few things not to happen in order to have a chance to beat the Tide:

Yup, us writers can be smart alecs like that. Maybe it's better to let the fans do the talking.

So, what say you, fans?

This guy likes the Tigers, and he brings up a good point about this being a kind of de facto national championship game:

Meanwhile, there are at least some fans that are getting a little tired of the hype. This guy thinks the game won't live up to all the hype even if it ends up being an incredible game:

Perhaps part of the problem is that the teams themselves are a tad overrated. Here's a fan who thinks Alabama is getting too much hype:

This mysteriously unnamed fan agrees:

But don't worry, 'Bama fans. At least one person out there doesn't think the Tide is overrated, and he used science to predict that they have a very good chance of winning on Saturday:

Math and video games. Two things that are never wrong.

We can rant, we can rave, we can calculate, and we can debate, but the truth is that there's really no way of knowing who is going to win on Saturday.

So, instead of further fanning the flames for either side, I encourage you to heed some sage-like advice from this guy:

Brilliant. Such a sage, that Rymer guy.

All self-promotion aside, I suspect we're all going to devote our Saturdays to watching the big game. You may think that will make for a rough Sunday morning, but Peter Burns of FOX Sports Radio pointed out something fairly awesome:

Thank goodness for that. This one's going to be a doozy.
