LSU vs. Alabama: Is This Game Bigger Than the BCS Championship?
In case you haven’t heard, tonight No. 1 LSU will be playing No. 2 Alabama in one of the biggest and most hyped-up regular season games in college football history.
The SEC showdown has all the ingredients to be an instant classic, and right now, with the way these two teams have been playing so far this season, it’s hard to say that there is another team in the sport that can compare to either one of these dominant squads.
These are two of the most talented teams we’ve seen this millennium, and with two great coaching staffs on the sideline, you can bet that they’ll both be ready for the big moment.
With over 600 media members credentialed for this game and tickets going for up to $10,000, this is starting to feel like college football’s version of a Super Bowl.
If this game lives up to the hype and media buildup, it will truly be the “Game of the Century” and that means that whatever happens over the last four weeks of the season and in the postseason will almost seem like an afterthought.
Sure, an Alabama vs. Oklahoma State or maybe an LSU vs. Stanford BCS National Championship Game would be fun to watch, but if these are really the two best teams in the country, then this is basically the 2011 BCS National Championship Game right here, and it’s a shame that we won’t get to see these two teams match up on a neutral field in even conditions.
If the game does live up to the hype and it goes right down to the wire, it’s almost going to make you wish for a rematch in New Orleans just to see it unfold all over again, even though it's going to take an unlikely scenario for that to happen.
Right now, this looks like the best possible National Championship matchup, but since there's very little chance that we'll see a rematch in the title game, we're going to have to prepare for other scenarios.
It would be interesting to see one of these teams play the likes of Stanford, Boise State or Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State has one of the most high-powered offenses in the country, and it would be a fascinating matchup between the Cowboys offense and either Alabama's or LSU's defense.
With Stanford, you have the Andrew Luck factor, and it would be interesting to see what luck could do against either one of these two tremendously tough defenses. If he struggled, it might diminish his superstar reputation a little bit.
And with Boise State, we would finally get to see what the Broncos are capable of in the big game after waiting all these years.
Still, these are the two clear-cut best teams in college football, and you're probably not going to get a better matchup than this one in the national title game.
