Tim Tebow: Heisman Trophy Candidate
Once again, the thought of who is going to win the Heisman is on the minds of all college football fans.
For years before now, quarterbacks who have won the award have been the quarterbacks that have had the best passing percentages and touchdowns. This year, we have some of the best passers that we have seen in a long time.
In Texas we have Colt McCoy, who has passed for 3,445 yards and 32 touchdowns. In Oklahoma we have Sam Bradford, who has passed for 4,464 yards and 48 touchdowns.
In Florida (go Gators!) we have last year's Heisman winner Tim Tebow, who is a Heisman candidate. But he is right in the middle of a lot of discussion.
Tebow is not your average quarterback; he is more like a one-man football team. He is not just a pocket passer, nor is he the type of quarterback that only runs the option. He is an all around quarterback; he does it all.
Florida (go Gators!) is more than a one-dimensional team. They have some of the fastest players in the nation on both sides of the ball.
This is what makes the Gators (go Gators!) one of the best teams in the league, which means that Tebow does not have to throw for 450 yards for the Gators to win big.
2,515 yards passing and 28 touchdowns while playing in a conference as tough as the SEC is a pretty tough task. Tebow threw for 216 yards and ran for 57 yards against the No. 1 ranked team in the nation, at a 63.6 percent passing rate.
All of this is being done without one of their top receivers Percy Harvin, who averaged 17 yards per reception and 595 receiving yards on the year. Tebow does what needs to be done to win the games, and that’s what you do to win HEISMAN TROPHIES.
