LSU vs. Alabama: Will Jordan Jefferson or Jarrett Lee Be More Effective?
Jordan Jefferson vs. Jarrett Lee?
A 6'5" senior quarterback, born and raised in Louisiana, who is known more for his running ability than his passing vs. a 6'2" quarterback, born and raised in Texas, who is known for his crisp passing ability.
Both have started for two years, both are seniors.
So the question now is: Who will have the bigger impact in what should be the biggest game in the collegiate career for both of these LSU quarterbacks?
If you look at both of these quarterbacks, they certainly bring different skill sets to the position. As we mentioned, Jefferson can change a game with his feet, and Lee with his arm. And while Lee has been the better quarterback throughout this year, it's hard to argue that Jefferson won't have a bigger impact on Saturday night.
Alabama has seen the classic drop-back quarterback like Lee already this season. They have played against the likes of Tyler Wilson (Arkansas), John Brantley (Florida) and Matt McGloin (Penn State), and not one of those three passed for more than 200 yards on this dominant Tide defense.
What they haven't seen yet this season is a quarterback that has elite scrambling ability, like Jefferson.
Alabama is known for getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks, and that could mean Lee will be forced to make quick decisions on the fly. Jefferson, however, has the ability to escape that pressure, get out of the pocket, and make plays with both his legs and arm.
If you look back to last year's game between these two, Jefferson was near perfect, completing 10-of-13 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown, in addition to his 27 yards on the ground. Lee was 4-of-7 for 67 yards with no touchdowns and no turnovers.
Now, this isn't to say Lee won't be good in this game. In fact, these are the two best quarterbacks Alabama will see in the SEC this year. But right now, you have to side with Jefferson just because he brings a new dimension to the game that this Alabama team has not seen this season.
Don't be surprised to see one of these quarterbacks thrown an interception at some point, but that can come to be expected against a defense as dominant as Alabama's.
The question will be, who will make the final play when the game is on the line? You have to believe that is going to be Mr. Jefferson.
