2011 Breeders Cup Entries: Goldikova Will Add to Historical Run of Success
Goldikova's accomplishments alone set her apart. She's won the Breeders' Cup Mile three times, which makes her the most successful horse in the history of the event, at least as it relates to one race.
By extension, her trainer Freddy Head and jockey Olivier Peslier are also the most accomplished people in their field in the race's history.
Not only has Goldikova won the Breeders' Cup Mile three times, but she's won it three times in a row. No other horse has more than two, and only two horses have enjoyed that success.
So, following those statistics, it's fair to say that she's at least the greatest horse in the history of the Breeders' Cup Mile, if not the entire event.
So, who would really bet against her?
This season, Goldikova is 2-3, which doesn't appear too great.
But, every loss she's suffered was a second-place finish, and two of those were close. So, while betting on an older horse is always a fear, that isn't something to worry about.
There is one problem with Goldikova, and it's not a small one. According to Bodog, she is a 3:1 favorite for her race.
Those odds are almost too good to bet on. In other words, you have to bet far too much to get any significant payoff.
So, is it worth it?
Well, that's for the individual to decide, as betting on sports is always something to think long and hard about. That logic certainly applies when the most important figures in a bet aren't humans.
But, based on Goldikova's history, there are really only two solid options here.
One is that you just don't bet. The other is that you bet on her.
Is it possible that she can lose?
Yes, anything is possible. But, given her history and the fact that she's clearly not too old to compete anymore, would anyone really want to bet against her?
Sure, you can always take a cheap flyer bet on a long shot with hopes that it will pay off.
Just don't expect it to.
