10 Statistics That Prove Tim Tebow and the Broncos Will Fail

Daniel ChristianNov 2, 2011

After Tim Tebow led the Denver Broncos to a thrilling comeback win against the Miami Dolphins, many pronounced it "Tebow Time."

It looks like they may have jumped the gun. Tebow finally played a competitive NFL team and got blown out of the water in devastating fashion, along with the rest of the now seemingly inept Broncos squad.

No one expected Tebow to deliver a win against the up-and-coming Detroit Lions, but as the future of a franchise people don't expect what they saw.

While you could sit down and pick apart Tebow's game piece by piece on film and take jabs at his mechanics, it's better to look at the Broncos as a whole and figure out statistical reasons why this won't be their year, and Tebow won't be their guy.

Tebow's Fumbles: 4 in the Last 2 Games

1 of 10

If Tebow can't hold onto the ball, how is he going to be a franchise quarterback?

I don't care how much intangibles and leadership capabilities you have, if you drop the ball every time you're hit it doesn't matter in the slightest.

Tebow fumbled three times against Detroit and once against Miami. In his first two starts of the season, he's averaging two fumbles per game. That's not the way to start off.

13 Sacks in Two Games

2 of 10

This can be attributed to the offensive line and Tebow not getting rid of the ball quickly enough.

It shouldn't matter who you throw the blame on, 13 sacks in two games is absolutely horrendous. Again, how is Tebow supposed to succeed if he's getting mauled by opposing defensive lines. Feeling the pass rush like he is is tough for every quarterback, but for a player who needs major mechanical tune ups, it just creates chaos.

31 Carries for Knowshon Moreno

3 of 10

Away from Tebow and to the other first-round pick that the Broncos want to depend on.

I love Knowshon Moreno. He has all the talent in the world and has the potential to be a game-changing back. The problem is that he's rarely healthy.

To make things worse, their perfectly adequate backup who is probably better than Moreno himself is just as injury-prone. Willis McGahee isn't going to stay healthy for a full season, and neither is Moreno.

With just 31 carries so far on the season for Moreno and no rushing touchdowns, it's safe to say his production has been limited.

With no consistently healthy threat out of the backfield, how are the Broncos going to establish a run game?

60 Points Allowed in Two Games Under Tebow

4 of 10

Part of this is because the offense is so terrible they don't give the defense time to rest. The other part is because the defense isn't that good themselves.

The Broncos allowed 15 points from the atrocious Miami Dolphins, which is around the number they should have put up.

Then, in a chance to have a statement game, both the offense and defense floundered as they were both destroyed by a very talented Detroit Lions team.

If the offense can't stay on the field, the defense will be filled with fatigue by the game's end, and the offense will be rusty because they've hardly taken the field.

Just another issue in Denver.

One Player over 15 Receptions

5 of 10

Who is Tebow going to throw to?

Other than Eric Decker, the Broncos have no current player who has racked up over 15 receptions on the season.

Daniel Fells is second with 14, but really? Daniel Fells is the second best receiver on the Broncos? He's pretty much a backup tight end.

Tebow's mechanics are bad enough, but if he only has one guy who can catch the ball it makes things difficult.

2 Rushing Touchdowns on the Season

6 of 10

This was mentioned a little earlier with Moreno, but the Broncos just aren't getting it done on the ground.

They saw production from McGahee while he was filling in for Moreno, but he too went down. The Broncos have one rushing touchdown out of the backfield, courtesy of McGahee. The other one was a Tebow run, which shouldn't surprise many as he'll probably call his own number a time or two in the red zone.

Only two rushing touchdowns not only signifies a poor rushing game, but also an inability to punch in a touchdown in the red zone, as they all too often are forced to settle for a field goal.

1 Special Teams Touchdown

7 of 10

The Broncos don't have anyone who can make big plays on special teams.

Eric Decker may have taken a 90-yard punt return to the house, but apart from that the Broncos haven't showed any big-play capabilities, both on the special teams and on offense.

No one is scared of a big return from Denver, and it's likely to stay that way.

3 Interceptions on the Season

8 of 10

Not only is their offense struggling immensely, they also can't force turnovers.

They're the polar opposite of the Atlanta Falcons, who have forced a turnover in 26 consecutive games. The Broncos would be lucky to get a five-game streak going.

Their secondary doesn't scare anyone and their corners often get beat by receivers. The defense should be picking up the offense's slack, but they don't have the manpower to do so.

Allow the Second-Most Points Per Game

9 of 10

To win a game, you have to score more than the other team.

No matter how many points Denver scores it will be tough for them to beat their opponent as they've chalked up a league second-worst with 28.6 points allowed per game.

Again, some of this bad defensive play stems from the offense not being able to stay on the field. However, that should be no excuse for the atrocity of that stat.

2 Wins, 5 Losses

10 of 10

What it all boils down to is wins and losses, and the Broncos aren't getting wins, and they aren't getting all that close, either.

Tebow's lone win this season was against a winless team. The sad part is that Denver needed an insane comeback to beat arguably the worst team in the league.

People want to believe in Tebow, and I understand that. However hard enough it is to believe in him though, it's harder to believe in this team as a whole.
