Key Storyline: Will Stanford Be Able to Follow Up After Incredible Win over USC?
Stanford was drained after beating the USC Trojans in a triple-overtime thriller this past weekend.
They need to rest up this week and prepare to play their normal, solid performance and not get ahead of themselves as they have a looming matchup on Nov. 12 against the No. 8 Oregon Ducks that will definitely have huge BCS implications.
Who Might Not Play for Stanford (via CollegeInjuryReport.com)
TE Zach Ertz – OUT (Leg) – The sophomore starting TE injured his lower leg in the battle against the Trojans last week. He has been ruled out this week and perhaps past the Nov. 19 game against Cal. He is the third-leading receiver on the team.
S Delano Howell – DBT (Hand) – The senior starting safety hasn’t played in two weeks because of an injured hand and but could possibly see the field against OSU either. A committee of sophomore Devon Carrington and true freshman Jordan Richards is replacing him.

LB Feti Unga – DBT (Knee) – Unga has missed the past two games and isn’t expected to play in this huge matchup against Stanford. He was leading the team in tackles prior to being injured and his absence will be felt.
RB Jovan Stevenson – QST (Knee) – The sophomore backup RB hasn’t played in the past two games either and most likely won’t be back this week. He was the second leading rusher for the Beavers.
BCS/Top 25 Implications
Stanford has jumped Boise State this week after overcoming USC and is now fourth in the BCS rankings.
They need to pick up a very solid and large road victory to continue climbing as either LSU or Alabama will fall this week.
The Beavers are playing almost purely for pride at this point with a 2-6 record and would love to play spoiler to the Cardinals national championship hopes.
What They're Saying
Kevin Gemmell at ESPN.com is wondering if the Ty Montgomery era is beginning at Stanford. He said,
"Nice to see another wide receiver finally have a big game. And I like the fact that Luck had the confidence to go to Ty Montgomery three straight times to open the final drive in regulation when the Cardinal were trailing 34-27 with 3:03 left in the game. Plus, Luck looked to him twice in overtime. Shows tremendous trust and confidence in the true freshman for him to get that much attention late in a critical game with an undefeated season on the line.
"
Cliff Kirkpatrick over at the Corvallis Gazette-Times had a minute to catch up with coach Mike Riley and get his thoughts on the Beavers chances against the Cardinal.
"“We’ll have problems for sure,” coach Mike Riley said. “I think our guys will be ready to compete. That’s our goal, to give it our all and do what we can. It’s going to take a monumental effort.”
"
Doesn’t sound too promising.
Stanford Player to Watch: Andrew Luck
Could it be anyone else? The consensus No. 1 NFL draft pick is a once in a generation talent who has this Cardinal team primed to compete for a national championship.
If it weren’t for him, who knows if this team would even be ranked.
Oregon State Player to Watch: Malcom Agnew
This undersized freshman running back is leading the team in carries, yards and touchdowns.
The Beavers will need a balanced attack and a solid day out of Agnew if they want any chance at upsetting the Cardinal.
Key Matchup: Stanford Defense vs. Oregon State Offense.
Stanford has had plenty of problems tackling this season and have given up far too many big plays.
Oregon State will need to exploit their inability to bring down their skill position players if they want to find the end zone.
The Beavers will also need to get Agnew going on the ground, as he is capable of home run plays.
