Ben Wallace Pleads Guilty, What Does It Mean for NBA Career?
The Detroit Pistons are one of the better upstart teams in the NBA and their veteran center Ben Wallace will be ready to go whenever the season starts despite pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
While the letter of the law says he could face maximum penalty of 93 days in jail, Wallace and the rest of the star athletes in this world rarely ever serve the time they are given, if any at all.
The more likely outcome will be a plethora of community service hours to make up for the lack of jail time.
"Police in Oakland County's Bloomfield Township said the 37-year-old Wallace was arrested during a traffic stop about 3 a.m. Sept. 24 after officers observed a Cadillac Escalade being driven erratically. Police said they found an unloaded pistol registered to Wallace's wife in a backpack. A breath test showed Wallace had a blood-alcohol level of 0.14 percent. The legal limit in Michigan is 0.08 percent.
"
The veteran center isn’t part of the offensive schemes of the Pistons, but to say he isn’t a big part of what Detroit wants to do this season is false.
Wallace is still one of the better defensive centers in the NBA, and his knack for getting rebounds makes him valuable despite his age of 37 years old.
There are players that will look to Wallace for his on-court talents, and as much as people want to question his character, you don’t stick in the NBA as long as he has without being good at what you do.
