Alabama Football: 5 Reasons Tide Will Roll over LSU Tigers

Adam SpencerOct 31, 2011

The biggest game of the college football season is only a few days away.

The Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers are the top two teams in the BCS rankings and will meet on the Crimson Tide's turf on Nov. 5.

This game will likely decide one of the participants in the BCS National Championship game and should be a defensive struggle, with two of the top-ranked defenses in the country going head-to-head.

Be that as it may, Alabama has a clear advantage for several reasons and should come out on top in the end.

Let's take a look at five of those reasons now.

5. Coaching Advantage

1 of 5

Don’t get me wrong, Les Miles is a great coach.

But, he has been known to do some goofy things at critical moments of football games.

He might be able to get away with poor clock management or strange play-calling against lesser opponents, but not against Alabama.

Nick Saban will have Alabama’s defense ready for everything (including trick plays) that LSU might throw at them. That will be one big key to what should be an Alabama victory.

4. Home Field Advantage

2 of 5

Bryant-Denny Stadium is not fun to play in for Alabama’s opponents.

They’ve been nearly unbeatable at home in the Nick Saban era (excluding last year’s amazing come-from-behind victory for eventual champion Auburn).

The crowd will be loud and make it really hard for LSU to hear play calls and snap counts. Expect a couple costly penalties early before the Tigers settle down.

3. Less Distractions

3 of 5

While LSU has been dealing with the suspensions of Spencer Ware, Tyrann Mathieu and Jordan Jefferson this season, Alabama has been relatively quiet on the national media front.

This could become an advantage for the Tide, who might be better focused for this huge game because of the lack of scandals.

2. Jarrett Lee Will Have to Beat Them

4 of 5

Alabama has one of the best defenses in the country.

They’ll be focused on stopping the LSU rushing attack, since that’s the Tigers’ best offensive weapon.

That means Jarrett Lee is going to have to make plays if the Tigers are going to win. He's, however, simply not that type of quarterback.

He’s more of a game manager who doesn’t make mistakes, not a QB who can lead his team back from a two-score deficit. That’s why LSU has the nation’s 99th-ranked passing offense.

1. Trent Richardson

5 of 5

The Tide have the best player in this game in Richardson.

He’s a game-changing player that has the potential to take over this game despite playing against one of the nation’s top defenses.

If he can take most of the pressure away from young QB A.J. McCarron, the Tide will be in good shape on Saturday.
