BCS Rankings 2011: Why Virginia Tech and Michigan Are Incredibly Overrated
What is the deal with the BCS?
I thought who you play actually matters.
Virginia Tech is currently ranked 12th in the latest BCS computer poll, about 10 to 15 spots too high.
The Hokies have played a grand total of one team in the Top 25 and were promptly spanked by Clemson 23-3.
The QB transition has been difficult, with sophomore QB Logan Thomas going through some serious bumps and bruises. His receiving core isn't very talented and there are too many mental errors made by the entire offense to be an elite team.
As usual, Frank Beamer has the defense in a terrific spot, ranking eighth in the nation, allowing a mere 15.4 points.
Then again, when you play the likes of Duke, Arkansas State, East Carolina and Appalachian State...the numbers are grossly skewed.
I fully expect them to get blown away by No. 23 Georgia Tech next week and plummet down everyone's rankings.
Speaking of teams poised to plummet, nobody has played the sort of cupcake schedule that No. 15 Michigan has been given.
The Wolverines are quietly moving up the rankings because they're taking care of business against the likes of Purdue and Northwestern.
They lost by two touchdowns to Michigan State, the only ranked team they've ever played.
Denard Robinson has no future in the NFL because of the terrible mistakes he tends to make. He has as many touchdowns (11) as interceptions. He relies on his legs too often and is going to be in for a rude awakening when they face faster and more disciplined defensive units.
With the last three games coming against incredibly tough defenses in Illinois, No. 10 Nebraska and Ohio State....Robinson is about to get exposed in a big way.
I foresee them losing all three, as the surprisingly strong start will be erased with a mediocre bowl game on the horizon.
Two teams in the Top 15 without a single win against another Top 25 opponent?
That is absurd.
