Kevin Kolb Injury: Cardinals QB's Injury Adds to Disappointing Season

Ryan RudnanskyOct 30, 2011

The Arizona Cardinals were supposed to be on the rebound after acquiring quarterback Kevin Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason.

But all they have done is go 1-6 and find themselves at the bottom of the NFC West.

On Sunday, the Cardinals' disappointing season continued, with Kolb seen in a walking boot on his right foot after the 30-27 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Kolb said he sustained the injury early in the game, and it is being labeled as turf toe at the moment, per Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.

Kolb could still make it back for Week 9, as turf toes can usually be dealt with rather deftly, but it doesn't change the fact that he went 10-of-21 for 153 yards, a touchdown and an interception against the Ravens.

Coming into Week 8, Kolb had completed under 58 percent of his passes and had thrown seven touchdowns to seven interceptions, despite having star receiver Larry Fitzgerald on his side.

But Kolb hasn't been the only one who has struggled. The Cardinals as a whole were scoring under 20 points per game headed into Week 8, and the pass defense in particular had let them down, giving up 274.2 passing yards per game. The defense as a whole was giving up 25.5 points per game.

Kolb was one of the biggest commodities on the market during the offseason, and it took the trading of Pro Bowl cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie for the Cardinals to acquire him.

Now the Cardinals find their young secondary desperately ailing after Rodgers-Cromartie's exit and their offense still struggling.

At this point, it wouldn't be out of the question for the Cardinals to win the Andrew Luck sweepstakes and select Stanford's star quarterback in the upcoming NFL draft.
