Cavaliers-Sixers: Cleveland's Freight Train Steamrolls Through Philly!

DatOne CatDec 10, 2008

Don't look now, but there is a locomotive barreling down the tracks headed towards an NBA arena near you.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a runaway train, the brakes are out, and those screams that you hear are the cries of the brokers who were duped into buying stock in the LeBron to N.Y. media offering.

Let me be the first to dispel the myth.

The King is not really looking to relocate in 2010, but being the media-savvy conglomerate that is LeBron James—not to mention a player who flat out loves the spotlight—he is not beyond making the Cavs brass sweat just to ensure that the two Dans (Cavs majority owner Dan Gilbert and GM Danny Ferry) continue to be actively engaged in improving the team around him.

Not that the men in wine and gold can do much to improve on the rock-solid basketball that they're playing on both ends of the floor as of late.  Last nights eight-point win in the city of brotherly love brings their latest winning streak to ten games—one shy of the longest in the history of the franchise.

Led by LeBron's 29 points and Mo Williams—who had his best game as a Cavalier with 27 points, six boards, and four assists—the Cavs continued their assault on the league with an impressive 101-94 road win over a game Philadelphia squad that, at least in the first half put up a lot more resistance than the roadkill that Cleveland has flattened in recent weeks

The third quarter once again was key for the Cavs.  After managing a meager two-point lead at halftime, they stormed out of the locker room with a 18-3 run to take a 66-49 lead halfway through the third.  By the time the onslaught was over, there were four seconds left in the period, and they were up 84-63.

As has been the case all season, this game was a total team effort.  The Cavs put 101 points on the scoreboard with only three players scoring in double figures.  Andersen Verajao (aka the Wild Thing) continued his to prove his worth and increase the likelihood that he gets a big bump in pay should he opt out of his current contract after the season.

Andy's line? 15 points, eight boards, three assists, one steal, and one block. And that doesn't even take into account his energy and hustle. I hope the two Dans are paying attention.
