Heisman Trophy Watch: Did Andrew Luck Seal the Heisman with 3-OT Win over USC?
Andrew Luck is the leader of the undefeated Stanford Cardinal and is without a doubt one of the smartest players in the game. His quick decision-making as well as his God-given talent leave him as one of the university's all-time greatest athletes, but will he end up being one of the nation's best football players?
Last night, Luck led Stanford to a 56-48 triple overtime victory against their in-state rivals the USC Trojans. His performance was dazzling and left many an announcer stunned.
Now as we all return to reality, we begin to notice NFL stadiums chanting his name. The professionals can't wait to get their hands on this player.
The Heisman Trophy remains Luck's last individual contest for him to win. He leads the Heisman watch and has been considered the top candidate the entire year. His composure last night in being able to come back from throwing a pick-six is a quality that is unquantifiable in the world of sports and should be recognized.
He just leads Alabama's RB Trent Richardson and Boise State's QB Kellen Moore.
Unfortunately for Andrew Luck, I don't think even an impressive triple overtime win will give him the definitive edge over a running back like Richardson.
Voters want to see Luck run over a ranked opponent and really blow us away. His last real chance to do so comes in two weeks when Oregon comes to Palo Alto to determine who wins the Pac-12 North.
The one-loss Ducks have been riding behind the Cardinal all season and any kind of big victory over such a potent squad will give Luck security in the Heisman Race.
The USC game may have been one of the most dangerous of his illustrious career, but as we head on towards the end of the season, we all just want to see more from Andrew Luck.
