BCS Standings: Clemson and Teams That Will Plummet in Rankings
The BCS Rankings will be coming out Sunday night, and there were plenty of slip-ups from teams like Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Texas Tech and Clemson this weekend. Which team will fall the most?
Wisconsin
Wisconsin followed up their loss on the road against Michigan State with another loss on the road, this time to Ohio State. Both games were close, but Wisconsin needed to beat Ohio State, even if it was on the road.
The Buckeyes were only 4-3 on the season before Saturday, and they have struggled at home, losing to Michigan State and narrowly escaping Toledo 27-22.
We are finally seeing Wisconsin’s true colors come out. They are a solid team, but they were slightly overrated. A few good teams are in their way and they bow out to both of them.
Texas A&M
Texas A&M lost to a Missouri team that has played others well in 2011. They lost to Oklahoma by 10, Arizona State by seven and Kansas State by seven, but they were just 3-4 on the season before Saturday. Losing at home rarely happens for Texas A&M, but it has happened multiple times this season.
Missouri captured 482 yards of total offense, including 284 yards on the ground.
It wasn’t a great day for the Aggies.
Clemson
Clemson was due to have an off game in 2011, but losing to an unranked opponent by double digits, who just lost two games in a row, will only force the system to drop Clemson down the rankings pretty far.
Georgia Tech only grabbed 60 yards rushing on Saturday, but Clemson still couldn’t stop the Yellow Jackets from getting 443 total yards—383 yards on the ground.
Defensively is where Clemson struggles. They allow 26 points per game, 57th in the nation. Playing this style of football will only bring a slip-up or two, because the offense will have an off day once in a blue moon and the defense won’t be able to hold up.
That happened against Georgia Tech. Clemson gave the ball away four times and had the ball 19 minutes less than the Yellow Jackets.
Texas Tech
If a win at Oklahoma can make you fly into the top-25 rankings, then a loss at home against Iowa State 41-7 should get you out just as fast.
Taking the Oklahoma win away, the Red Raiders' best victory came against at Nevada (5-3). Their schedule has been weak at best, and they don’t deserve to be in the top 25 after losing 41-7 at home to an average opponent.
Texas Tech should be the team that fall the most because of who they lost to, how they lost and who they beat this season. Take the Oklahoma game away and they haven’t beaten anybody of quality.
