UFC 137 Results: What Must Nick Diaz Do to Wear UFC Gold?

G DOct 29, 2011

Nick Diaz has done it again.

Except this time, Diaz is being recognized for something positive after dominating BJ Penn in fashion at UFC 137 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

But, the real news hit the press following his fight with Penn at the post-fight press conference.

UFC President Dana White announced that Carlos Condit will no longer be fighting George St-Pierre as he was replaced by no other than Diaz himself.

White's controversial decision has left UFC fans across the globe with one question,

What must Nick Diaz do to wear UFC gold?

In order for Diaz to come within breathing distance of the UFC Welterweight championship, he'll have to be better than he was against Penn.

Better?

Yes.

While Penn is one of the greatest to have ever stepped foot inside the Octagon, he's no match for St-Pierre.

In order to defeat St-Pierre, Diaz will have to use his world class boxing skills to overwhelm his opponent.

For Diaz to do so, he'll have to keep the fight in the stand up.

Unfortunately for Diaz, that isn't how St-Pierre fights, as he's been known for his grueling take downs and ground and pound.

One thing Diaz must avoid heading into his championship fight with St-Pierre is complacency, similar to what he displayed in round one with Penn.

Diaz won't have time to figure St-Pierre out as he'll be on his back defending St-Pierre strikes in a blink of an eye.

While Diaz will be arguably the toughest opponent the current champion has faced to date, he's still the best Welterweight of all time.

In order for Diaz to dethrone St-Pierre, he'll have to be better than he's ever been before.
