Jeffrey McKinneyOct 29, 2011

Tonight at UFC 137, Mirko "Cro Cop"  Filipovic fought his final MMA match.

Despite having a good showing in the first and part of the second round, Cro Cop was taken out in the third round by the heavy hands of Roy Nelson

Although Cro Cop has now lost his third straight fight by KO, he will be remembered as one of the most feared strikers in MMA history.

Before Cro Cop began his MMA career, he was an accomplished kick boxer and a commando in the Croatian police anti-terrorist unit Alpha.

Cro Cop began his MMA career in 2001 when he received a victory over accomplished Japanese fighter Kazuyuki Fujita.

At Pride 20, in just his fourth MMA fight, Cro Cop met one of Pride's best fighters, Wanderlei Silva

Silva and Cro Cop fought under special rules without judges for five rounds.

Despite the draw, Cro Cop proved he could be one of MMA's best.

He went on to win his next five fights which included two KO victories by his signature head kick.

The wins earned him a title fight with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira for Pride's interim heavyweight title. Although Cro Cop won the stand up battle in the first round, he eventually got caught in an arm bar in the second round.

Cro Cop would challenge once more for Pride's heavyweight title, this time against Fedor Emelianenko

Cro Cop once again fell short but would not leave Pride empty handed.

He won four straight fights in 2006, including defeating Wanderlie Silva and Josh Barnett in the same night to become the PRIDE 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix winner.

Cro Cop made his UFC debut the following year, defeating Eddie Sanchez by TKO.

Cro Cop's next fight against Gabriel Gonzaga would have earned him a title shot had he won. Instead he lost the fight by a move he had used so much in his career—a head kick.

The Gonzaga fight is where many believed his career began to decline.

Although he won a few more fights, Cro Cop showed signs of decline, losing to some of the UFC's elite heavyweights.

Although it's sad to see Cro Cop go, he's made the right decision.

Many fighters continue to hold on to their careers despite continuing to lose by knock out.

While he has not had the best UFC career, Cro Cop should always be remembered for his accomplishments through out his whole career.

With 20 of his 27 wins by knockout, Cro Cop was one of the most feared fighters in MMA history.
