UFC 137 Results: 5 Fights Donald Cerrone Should Take Next
On Saturday night, Donald Cerrone continued his tear through the UFC lightweight division, as he racked up his fourth straight UFC victory, and sixth straight overall.
Not only did he beat Dennis Siver, but he beat him convincingly, and in the first round.
He started it off with a left leg kick, followed up with a left high kick that was the absolute definition of "shin to the chin."
Cerrone has now established himself as a top contender in the lightweight division, so another top contender would make for a good fight, but Cerrone has some other guys on his radar.
Let's take a look at five potential matchups for Donald Cerrone.
Cole Miller
1 of 5This is the least likely of the fights to happen, as Cole Miller and Cerrone are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Miller is currently in the mid to lower part of the lightweight division, having gone 3-2 in his last five fights in the Octagon, whereas Cerrone is 4-0.
Cerrone has wanted this fight for awhile, ever since Miller defeated Leonard Garcia in 2007.
Although Cerrone should just be happy about the fact that he's a top contender and Miller is not.
Jim Miller
2 of 5Jim Miller was, at one point, one win away from a shot at the UFC lightweight title. Then he met Ben Henderson.
Miller lost to Henderson at UFC on Versus 5, and now Henderson is in a No. 1 contender's match with Clay Guida. Cerrone has lost to Henderson twice and Miller just lost to him. A fight between these two would put the winner easily in the top five of the division.
Gray Maynard
3 of 5Gray Maynard was the most recent title challenger, and would be an outstanding test for Cowboy.
Maynard's only loss was to the champion, Frankie Edgar, and if Cowboy could get past him, then he is absolutely championship caliber.
There's so many different ways this fight could go, but it would answer a lot of questions about each of them.
A win for Cerrone would probably be the biggest of his career.
Ben Henderson or Clay Guida
4 of 5Normally, I would say the loser of this fight would be the matchup for Cerrone to take, but Dana White recently said that the winner is not necessarily in line for a title shot.
That's in case Gilbert Melendez wins, and he gets an immediate title shot.
If that's the case, then Cerrone could take on the winner of this fight in a No. 1 contender's match.
Or, if the winner does get a title shot, he could take on the loser, in what could be a No. 1 contender match for Cerrone.
Nam Phan
5 of 5Cerrone recently called out Ultimate Fighter 13 alum, Nam Phan, and said he'll go down to 145 pounds to fight him.
After Phan's win over Cerrone's training partner Leonard Garcia, Phan said that it shouldn't just be Garcia to blame, but his trainers and others as well.
I'm sure he didn't mean it insultingly, but either way, Cerrone was none too pleased.
Cerrone couldn't get his grudge match with Cole Miller, let us have this one Dana.
Make it happen.
