Week 8 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: Matthew Stafford and 5 Other QBs You Should Sit
Week 8 means that Aaron Rodgers isn't playing because the Green Bay Packers have a bye so fantasy owners are scrambling to find a replacement. There won't be many great options available so sorting through the waiver wire will be difficult at best.
Some of the players on this list have quite a bit of talent but are being held down by injuries. Others are healthy but don't have any talent around them. The remaining quarterbacks don't have any talent themselves.
One quarterback is probably going to be better known for setting the most recent fad (Tebowing) than for his production on the field.
The following slides will at least provide you who to stay away from. Unfortunately, some people won't have any other options.
1. Matthew Stafford
1 of 6Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford began the season red-hot showing off his chemistry with stud wide receiver Calvin Johnson. The past couple weeks have not been nearly as impressive as he has completed just over 50 percent of his passes.
Against the Atlanta Falcons, the offensive line allowed Stafford to be sacked on his first two drop backs. The line was a concern coming into the season and they have been exposed lately. The lack of protection may be affecting Stafford's confidence which has led to awkward side arm throws. The worse your mechanics, the worse your accuracy.
Towards the end of the game, Stafford limped off the field and was attended to by trainers. He did practice with the starters towards the end of the week but you have to be concerned with this ability to stay on the field this week against Von Miller.
2. Colt McCoy
2 of 6There aren't too many fantasy owners that would be eager to start Colt McCoy in an advantageous situation. There are none that want to start him against the stout San Francisco 49ers defense.
He is completing a horrific 56 percent of his passes and has a grand total of eight touchdown passes. Despite his athletic ability, he does not have any rushing touchdowns this season.
If you must start him tomorrow, you better have had a great night at the Halloween party so you are able to sleep while your team is massacred.
3. Tim Tebow
3 of 6This pick is obvious but people are still going to start him regardless of his actual passing ability.
Tim Tebow did not erase his performance for the first 50 minutes last week by leading a scintillating comeback over the hapless Miami Dolphins. If the game had been against any other team (with the Indianapolis Colts being the exception), there is no way the comeback happens.
The Detroit Lions are looking to rebound after a couple tough losses. Their defensive line has been hearing all week how they're dirty and can't stop the run. They'll be looking to shut down the run and they'll be plenty motivated.
Unfortunately for the Denver Broncos, the only thing Tebow can do is run as evinced by the multiple under thrown and overthrown passes against the Dolphins.
On second thought, Tebow might not even make it to halftime against an angry Ndamukong Suh because of the physical style that Touchdown Timmy plays.
4. Kevin Kolb
4 of 6Kevin Kolb might appear to a few desperate fantasy owners to be a viable option. However, Larry Fitzgerald cannot save him against another defense that is going to be looking for vindication.
The Baltimore Ravens have to be embarrassed about their loss to the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football. The defense didn't perform too poorly but Ray Lewis isn't the type to revel in moral victories.
The real question for Kolb may be how many attempts he will even be able to throw. He will likely be spending much more time on the run or on his back.
5. Matt Schaub
5 of 6Andre Johnson will not be walking through the door this week for the Houston Texans. This means that the Houston rushing game will be emphasized yet again.
The Jacksonville Jaguars would provide an extreme challenge even if the Texans had the services of Johnson this week. They are ranked in the top 10 in the league for yards allowed as well as points allowed per game.
Schaub is probably the best option on this list this week. That isn't saying much.
6. Matt Moore
6 of 6The Miami Dolphins have been so horrendous that their starting running back Reggie Bush has been quoted as saying "We stink." The worst part is that he is completely accurate, unlike his quarterback.
Matt Moore's individual performance has not been much better. Through three starts, he has amassed a whopping one touchdown and three interceptions. His quarterback rating (67.0) is only slightly better than his completion percentage (59.1).
To make matters worse, the New York Giants boast one of the best pass rushes in the league. Miami's complete lack of a rushing game means the Giants will be coming after Moore on almost every play.
