NFL Picks Week 8: New Orleans Saints Will Destroy St. Louis Rams

Zachary D. RymerOct 28, 2011

When they face winless teams, the New Orleans Saints have made it abundantly clear that they don't take any prisoners.

At least, such is what their 62-7 destruction of the Indianapolis Colts would leave you to believe. The Saints could have taken their foot off the gas once they were up by 40 or so, but they continued to press the attack.

While the Saints were busy publicly destroying the Colts, one imagines that there might have been a little quivering going on among members of the St. Louis Rams organization. After all, they're next.

The Saints and Rams will meet Sunday afternoon in St. Louis, and the oddsmakers don't think the Rams stand much of a chance. The spread, according to Bodog, has the Saints favored by 14 points.

This is a spread that you want to jump on as soon as you get a chance. The Rams have made a habit of getting blown out this season, and it sounds like Sam Bradford may be a no-go for a second straight game. The Rams reported via Twitter on Thursday that Bradford's injured ankle is still troubling him, and that his situation is "status quo."

Of course, the Rams are going to be in trouble even if Bradford does play. When it comes to the Saints, the question is not so much what you can do on offense, as it is what you can do on defense.

Unfortunately for the Rams, they just can't do much on defense. They're allowing over 28 points per game, and are virtually hopeless when it comes to stuffing the run.

These are things that do not bode well against a team like the Saints, who are the highest scoring team in the NFL. As if that wasn't enough, the Saints are coming off a game in which they logged well over 200 yards rushing.

Of course, they also have Drew Brees, who was damn near perfect against the Colts. Only four of his 35 passing attempts fell incomplete, and he threw five touchdown passes. Quarterbacks don't get much better than him.

In all likelihood, we're looking at a game in which the Saints are going to score over 30 points. They may even go over 40 again. The only way the Rams are keeping it close is if they can score some points of their own.

Did I mention the Rams have the lowest-scoring offense in the league?
