Terrell Owens: Suicide Attempt the Latest Reason T.O.'s NFL Career Is Finished

Eric BallOct 27, 2011

Terrell Owens has been accused of attempting suicide—again.

Earlier in October, Owens was rushed to the hospital for an undisclosed reason.

Now TMZ.com has acquired the 911 call that was made by T.O.’s assistant.

You can clearly hear the panic in her voice as she explains that Owens took “four prescription pain pills—I just don’t know how many he’s taken but he took them about 30-45 minutes ago.”

When the 911 operator asked if Owens was awake, the caller replied, “Barely…we talk to him and he understands what we’re saying.”

The kicker is when the operator asked if it was a suicide attempt, and the woman replied, “Yes, I believe so.”

Yikes.

Owens and his agent Drew Rosenhaus have not responded to the rumors, but the proof is in the call. Who knows what his real intentions were, maybe he just wanted to get a sound night of sleep, but having a story like this come out is incredibly damaging.

This couldn’t come at a worse time for Owens, as he attempts to make one last comeback to the NFL after recovering from a torn ACL that was rumored to have happened while he was filming an episode of the T.O. Show, his popular VH1 program.

The 37-year-old held a workout in California on Tuesday in an attempt to land a NFL contract—and not a single team showed up. Chicago gave him an offer, but it was the arena league team, not the Bears. He would be making $400 a week, not quite what he’s used to.

When the Oakland Raiders, who could use another wideout and have a former T.O. teammate in QB Carson Palmer on the team, doesn’t want him—it’s a bad sign.

This isn’t the first time he’s been rumored to attempt suicide.

Five years ago, Owens, then with the Dallas Cowboys, was hospitalized for what he described as an unpleasant reaction to pain medication. Because reports of him having then taking 35 Vicodin pills had run rampant, he passionately denied that rumor in a news conference.

People are afraid of bringing in T.O. because of his dynamic personality that has previously destroyed team chemistry. He somehow finds a way to keep his name in the headlines for all the wrong reasons and the distractions tend to find a way to reach the locker room.

Having the 911 call released right now is horrific timing.

If a team was thinking about signing the troubled receiver—they’re now having second thoughts.
