Montreal Canadiens Finding Their Form—But Can They Make It a "HABit?"

Jim SwyerDec 10, 2008

I am sitting at home last night, trying to fix the lights on the tree.  In the background I have the Montreal game on as usual.  I have noticed that in the last week or so they have a bit more speed to their game, like a sense of urgency has come over the team.  The addition if Matt D'Agostini has been very rewarding, both for him and the team.  I again noticed the absence of Guillaume Latendresse and Ryan O'Byrne who were healthy scratches again.

I always make an attempt to watch the "Habs" play and enjoy the commentary, especially when the game is broadcast on R.D.S.!  So, needless to say I had the volume on high as I replaced burned out bulbs on the old pre-lit tree.  The game was very fast as it has been for a week or so.

I was very impressed with the way Montreal was playing.  The "Habs" have been shooting more then they were in some previous games.  It was bringing back found memories of watching the "Habs" play on the french CBC channel around Christmas time.

I have been raving about this great talent in the "AHL" on the Hamilton Bulldogs.  No one really seemed to listen to me, not even the guys in the "Beer" league that I play hockey in.  I sang his praises to a deaf audience.  Well, I am glad to see that Matt D'Agostini has made the transistion to the NHL and thrived!  I know he is not the next "Mario" or "Wayne", but he may be just what Montreal needs right now.

I sat in front of the TV last year wondering where I had first saw Guillaume Latendresse?  Then after some web surfing, I found it, Drummondville.  While I don't remember what it was about him that stood out, I do remember watching a game or two he played in here at Mile one centre.  It never occured to me at that time he was NHL material, but who was I to say that in 2006?

I do think that his size is great to have on the team, but his puck control and skating is nothing special at the NHL level.  I do hope that he can get back to the NHL, but some time in the AHL may be just what he needs right now.  Ryan O'Byrne has had the toughest time of anyone on the "Habs," so far this year.

While I don't think he is the kind of player that the "Habs" have in say, Mike Komisarek, he is physical and can contribute.  Another candidate for the AHL, I think so!  Right now, Montreal is going where they need to.  I think that it is time for management to use the healthy scratches either in the NHL or ship them off to Hamilton and have them work on their skills at that level.

I think that this is the best team that Montreal has had in quite some time!  I can only hope that the current style of play will be adopted for the remainder of the season!
