Brandon Marshall Videos: Watch Marshall Open Up About Personality Disorder
There is a lot more to Brandon Marshall than what meets the eye.
You may know him as the Miami Dolphins' top receiver. Fantasy owners may know him as the guy that has dropped four TDs in the end zone, and only has 483 yards and one touchdown on the season.
Yet there is another side of Marshall that is a big part of his everyday life, and it has nothing to do with the sport of football.

Marshall has been diagnosed with BPD, better known as borderline personality disorder. It causes him to endure some extremely violent mood swings and a tendency to do something known as “splitting,” which means he goes between idealizing and demonizing others.
He decided to film a PSA about the disorder to help raise awareness, and to show people that you can lead a normal life with it.
Marshall has written a book that will be turned into a movie. Here is a sample:
""I had a $50 million contract, I caught over 100 passes three years in a row at one point in my career, I have my jersey in the Hall of Fame. But I never enjoyed it. That was my face every day. That was my reality."
"
He has had incidents with his wife that have gone public, with the most recent coming back in April when his spouse was arrested for stabbing him in their home. Marshall says she was wrongfully arrested, as he claims to have cut himself on glass.
It’s an on-going battle for the one they used to call “The Beast,” and doing a PSA is an encouraging step in the right direction to raise awareness about the disease. Its something he has been able to keep under control, and now is turning it into a positive.
Marshall has become the face of this disorder, and has given hope to people with the disorder all over the world. I’ll leave you with another excerpt from what will surely be a must-see documentary:
""They say football players are trained to be bipolar. We’ve got to have a switch to turn it on on the field. We go out and try to hurt (another) man. We go out and get hit violently and love it. The Beast didn’t have that (switch). The Beast was out of control. With those emotions and pain I landed here at McLean Hospital. It was sad because I didn’t understand why I couldn’t turn that switch off. (Now) when I touch the field, I turn on the switch. I play with a lot of passion, a lot of emotion, the way the game is supposed to be played, but now I have the ability to turn that switch off when the clock hits zero. The monster is controlled."
