NFL Playoffs: Who Wants It More?

Raider Card AddictDec 9, 2008

As Week 14 finished out and the smoke cleared, the playoff picture became a little clearer.

But there's still a lot of questions out there to figure out.

Kurt Warner, thanks to a weak NFC West Division, locked up a playoff berth on Sunday with a win over his former team, the St. Louis Rams.

The Giants and the Titans both solved their problems, albeit in different ways. In taking apart Cleveland, the Titans locked up their division and made sure the Browns will be once again staying home this January.

Meanwhile, the Giants lost to the Eagles but still won their division, thanks to a loss by Dallas.

For a quick breakdown, the AFC has five open spots currently held by the following teams:

Pittsburgh, Denver, New York Jets, Indianapolis, and Baltimore. Beyond these five, there's still four teams trying to get into the last five spots.

Teams like Buffalo, New England, Miami, and San Diego are all still alive.  However, easiest job for the first three is catching the Jets. San Diego has only one course of action, which is the large task of overtaking the division-leading Broncos.

The one team that makes this all a challenge is the Jets. A couple weeks ago, they had a good winning streak. Then the ship wavered off course with consecutive loses to the Broncos and 49ers. If they win out, fine and dandy.

But this is the NFL—anything can happen.

On to the NFC, where two of the six spots are taken.

Carolina, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and Dallas are in control of the last four spots. On the outside, there are six other teams still alive. The Falcons, Eagles, Washington, Chicago, the Saints, and even the Packers have a shot to make the playoffs.

What controls the NFC race? Two factors.

One will be how the Vikings play without Gus Frerotte. Losing a starting QB is bad, but it will depend on how Tavaris Jackson brings it about, with Adrian Peterson's help.

The other factor is Dallas. Last week they looked anything but solid, losing a game in the last few minutes. Romo's play was suspect, and the interceptions will have a few teams asking,"If he's coming apart, can we sneak in?"

Playoff projections for both conferences:

AFC                                           NFC

1. Titans                                     1. Giants

2. Pittsburgh                                2. Carolina

3. Miami                                      3. Chicago

4. Denver                                    4. Arizona

5. Colts                                       5. Tampa Bay

6. Jets                                        6. Atlanta

On to the last three weeks...enjoy the football, don't break the TV.
