BCS Rankings: Kansas State and the Teams That Have the Most to Gain on Saturday

Tim KeeneyOct 26, 2011

Here's a look at three schools that have the potential for the most gain in the BCS Rankings this Saturday.

Kansas State (No. 8)

It's not often that you see a 7-0 school from a major BCS conference sitting at No. 8 in the rankings, but that's where the Wildcats are now.

Part of their low ranking is because they've yet to get a "great" win (although vs. Baylor and at Texas Tech were good wins), but they get a chance for one on Saturday.

The No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners come to town and they won't be happy. Oklahoma just suffered a disappointing home loss and will be looking for revenge.

If the Wildcats can pull off this victory, they have a good case for Top Five.

Michigan State (No. 11)

All that's missing from Michigan State's resume now is a 44-yard last-second heave to win a game in which they blew a 14-point fourth-quarter lead.

Oh wait, no, they already have one of those.

What's really missing from the Spartans' resume is a road victory over a ranked opponent. The win over Wisconsin was nice, as was the road win against Ohio State, but this one at Nebraska would be terrific for MSU.

If they win this one, they are a Top-10 lock and can essentially coast to the Big Ten championship.

Stanford (No. 6)

The Cardinal are another team getting a lot of flack for their lack of quality opponents, and a road win against a good USC team would go a long way.

The Trojans are likely right on the fringe of the BCS Top 25 at 6-1, and if it weren't for the sanctions, this would be a possible Pac-12 championship preview.

Stanford's best road win so far this season was at Arizona. That's not good.

If they want to put themselves in national championship talks, they need to win by about three scores. The Cardinal won't get another real road test this season.
