BCS Rankings: Oklahoma Sooners and More Teams That Will Bounce Back in Week 9
The second BCS rankings of 2011 had quite the change up thanks to some huge upsets, but those teams that took a hit in Week 8 will rebound strong in Week 9.
Suffering two losses in a row would end all hopes and dreams for a team trying to make it to the BCS, which is exactly the reason certain teams will be extra motivated to have success this Saturday.
Here are three teams that will bounce back in Week 9.
Oklahoma Sooners
What in the world just happened? That was on the minds of every Oklahoma player and fan last weekend when Texas Tech pulled the major upset and won 41-38. It wasn't a close game until the fourth quarter, but a team ranked that high shouldn't be waking up that late in the game.
The Sooners will put that game behind them and continue their quest to win the Big 12. After all, you have no shot at reaching the title game if you don't win your conference.
Oklahoma has to turn around and hit the road now to take on a surprisingly undefeated Kansas State team. The Wildcats haven't been truly tested, but this Saturday they will feel the wrath of the Sooners.
Landry Jones and Ryan Broyles won't take forever to get the offense going, as the Sooners will end the Wildcats impressive run.
Wisconsin Badgers
A last second hail-mary that just happened to fall into the hands of a Michigan State receiver ended the Badgers' dreams of competing for the BCS National Title Game.
There's still a chance, albeit small, that Wisconsin plays in the title game, but they will need a lot of help from other teams, and I just don't see that happening, especially since the Badgers schedule is weak to begin with.
Wisconsin must now focus on winning the Big Ten and most likely playing in the Rose Bowl for the second straight year.
The Badgers will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, which makes it their second consecutive road game, as well as their second road game on the season.
Russell Wilson and company took a while to get it going against Michigan State, but they'll turn things around and soundly beat the Buckeyes, who just aren't that good this season. Their defense will keep the Badgers honest, but the Buckeyes offense doesn't have enough in them to take down Wisconsin.
West Virginia Mountaineers
Another team shell-shocked from Week 8, the Mountaineers should have easily dismantled Syracuse, but the Orange wanted one last hoorah over West Virignia before they left the Big East.
Now, West Virginia must forget the lose and focus on taking down Rutgers in Week 9. It's the second straight road game for West Virginia, but this time around the Mountaineers won't be caught napping.
West Virginia thought it had the victory before the game even started last week, but then Syracuse threw it right back in the Mountaineers face.Rutgers is coming off its first loss since Week 2, and the Scarlet Knights will look to better their conference record with a win over a ranked opponent.
However, that isn't going to happen because Dana Holgorsen and Geno Smith will get back to work and take care of business on Saturday.
The conference title isn't out of the picture for either of these teams, but the Mountaineers will prevail since they're the better team. It didn't happen last week, but West Virginia will make sure it doesn't occur in Week 9.
