NFL Fact or Fiction: Philadelphia Eagles Face Tennessee Titans in Super Bowl

Brian RoachOct 25, 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles could make it to to the Super Bowl—that is a fact.

However, the Tennessee Titans making it also? That is just fiction.

There are too many great teams in the NFL—and especially in the AFC—that the Titans and Eagles cannot both make it into the Super Bowl in February.

The Eagles were labeled the "Dream Team" in the preseason right after the lockout ended in August. It seemed as if their defense and offense were destined to win, but so far this season they are 2-4 and last in the NFC East. They are only two games out with 10 games to go, so look for the Eagles to make some noise down the stretch in the final 2.5 months in the regular season.

The Titans are doing surprisingly well in 2011 with a 3-3 record and only half a game behind the 4-2 Houston Texans; it looks to be anyone's division in the AFC South.

Michael Vick Needs to Play Better

1 of 10

Michael Vick was a stud last season at the quarterback position for the Eagles, but this year he has been more average than not.

Vick has only thrown nine touchdowns in six games compared to eight picks. He also has only averaged under 200 yards a game when he was projected to be one of the best quarterbacks in 2011.

If Vick can't handle the pressure of being an elite quarterback soon, the Eagles could not even make it to the playoffs.

Matt Hasselbeck Will Fall Back to Earth

2 of 10

Matt Hasselbeck has probably been the only bright spot for the Titans in 2011. Besides his atrocious start against the Houston Texans in Week 7, Hasselbeck was a stud for the Titans at quarterback.

Hasselbeck has had 10 touchdowns so far in 2011, and with his best wide receiver, Kenny Britt, out for the year, it looks to be Nate Washington as Hasselbeck's favorite target.

This will not work out for the Titans and they will miss the playoffs because there are multiple teams above them in the wild-card race.

LeSean McCoy Is a Beast

3 of 10

LeSean McCoy is an animal, averaging almost 95 rushing yards per game. He has scored at least one touchdown, whether it be on the ground or through the air, each week and will probably score again in Week 8 when the Eagles face the Cowboys.

If McCoy can keep it up, the Eagles could definitely make it the the Super Bowl.

Chris Johnson Is Fading Away

4 of 10

Let's just face it, Titans: Chris Johnson is not the player who was given a big contract during the preseason.

Johnson has only 268 rushing yards in 2011 and has only scored once. He has disappointed Titans fans as well as the fantasy owners who drafted him high in this year's draft.

Expect Johnson to improve, but the Titans won't do much better.

Eagles Have Too Many Great Options at Receiver

5 of 10

Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson have combined for 945 yards and five touchdowns through six games and their ability to stay in sync with Vick has improved as the season has progressed.

Expect at least 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns for each of these guys before season's end.

Titans Have No Viable No. 1 Receiver

6 of 10

The Titans passing game has suffered since Britt went down in Week 3—well, at least in their last game against the Houston Texans.

Britt was Hasselbeck's go-to guy and now Washington is that guy. Britt was averaging more than 130 yards per game and scored three touchdowns in his first two games before he was put on the IR with a torn ACL.

If Britt were available, the Titans would have likely make the playoffs.

Eagles Defense Is Improving

7 of 10

The Eagles defense has been average at best in 2011, but it is starting to find its rhythm and allowed only 13 points to the Washington Redskins in their Week 6 matchup.

The Eagles are coming off a bye week in Week 7, so expect this defense to be well rested to win down the stretch.

Titans Defense Is Lacking

8 of 10

The defense of the Titans is just not Super Bowl or even playoff worthy, as it is average at best. The defensive weakness was taken advantage of when the Texans scored 41 points last week.

The Titans face the Indianapolis Colts this week, so it should be an easy game for the defense, but who knows? Maybe the Colts will actually produce.

Eagles Will Finish Season 11-5

9 of 10

The Eagles will just barely make it into the playoffs and will be one of the wild-card teams. They will make a run in the playoffs and will make it to the Super Bowl, but will lose to the New England Patriots.

Titans Will Finish 7-9

10 of 10

With little production from Chris Johnson and Matt Hasselbeck starting to show his true colors, the Titans will struggle on the offensive end throughout the 2011-12 season.

The Titans will not make the playoffs and they will have to wait until next season to get that Super Bowl win.
