WWE Vengeance 2011 Results: WWE's Direction with CM Punk Is Absurd
Let's think back to a magical time in WWE. All the way back to late-June, early-July when CM Punk was the hottest property in professional wrestling.
Now, following a loss in a tag team match to Miz and R-Truth at Vengeance, Punk is right back in the same spot that he was before he cut that shoot promo.
Here are a few ways that WWE has killed Punk's momentum in just four short months.

Making Him An Afterthought
The fact that Punk was pinned in the match is not the problem. The way that he was pinned, and other external factors that contributed to the loss, are big problems.
The finish saw Triple H and R-Truth fighting on the outside when Kevin Nash made his return. Nash gave Triple H a powerbomb, which looked like a botch because he landed on his shoulder.
Meanwhile, Punk gets beaten up by both Miz and Truth for a minute before getting pinned after a combination of the skull-crushing finale and downward spiral.
Triple H was protected, of course, because he did not get pinned and was blindsided by someone who was not supposed to be in the match. He has not been pinned since making his return to the ring last month, albeit in only two matches.
Punk is an afterthought in this whole mess. Considering the things that he had to say about Nash before he was fired last month, wouldn't it make sense for Nash to attack Punk?
Of course it would, but that would mean that he has to be involved in the feud. Vince McMahon can't have that.
Lack of Focus
Whether you like Punk or not is irrelevant. The fact that he has been booked to look so bad over the last four weeks has killed what little momentum he had left after the Money In the Bank show.
WWE goes so far out of its way to protect people like John Cena and Triple H, but when they get someone who is making a connection with the crowd, like Punk or even Zack Ryder, the powers that be are going to do everything they can to make sure they don't get over.
Now, with The Rock returning and so many other things taking precedent, Punk is going to be back where he was in April-May, when he was ready to walk out of the company because he was fed up with the direction of his character.
Bad Storylines
The "shoot" promo at the end of June was supposed to be a turning point because Punk called out McMahon for all of his faults as a wrestling promoter. It was hot and the fans were interested in a way they haven't been in years.
When he took the title after Money In the Bank, it was supposed to be the dawn of a new era. But Punk returned one week after leaving and the fans figured out that the whole thing was a work and stopped caring.
If that was not bad enough, the fact that WWE put Punk and Triple H together in a tag team match just weeks after they were battling for the company was completely idiotic.
Conclusion
The problems with Punk have nothing to do with him or his performance. The company wants him to fail because he is not a "WWE creation." He made his name elsewhere and has continued to build his name with this company.
It would be nice if he were given a fair chance on top, like Cena or Orton, but because he looks and talks differently than anyone else, that will not happen.
