WEMBY TURNOVER LEADS TO KNICKS WIN 😱

Charlie Strong and Co. End Schiano, Rutgers Winning Streak

David AbelOct 24, 2011

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights began and ended the game in the same fashion: A turnover. Gary Nova's three interceptions led to the eventual demise of the Scarlet Knights, ending their four game winning streak.

Late in the game, RU drove the ball 80 yards and put one in pay dirt, diminishing the Cardinal lead to just 16-14. Nova dropped back and found Sanu for the score. That would be as close as the Scarlet Knights would get however, as eventual dropped passes and turnovers finished the game.

With 7:41 left in the first, Louisville RB Dominique Brown took one in from a yard out, giving the Cardinals a 7-0 lead.

After a few possession changes, the Rutgers offense garnered the ball in Louisville territory. 6 plays later (and as time expired in the half) Savon Huggins pounded it in from the one, thus tying the game at seven apiece.

The third quarter saw two scoring drives, both from the Cardinals. First, just 3:00 into the half, Louisville Kicker Chris Philpott blasted a career long 52 yarder giving the Cardinals a 10-7 edge. Rutgers could not answer and Louisville got the ball back. Following the change of possession, Louisville trucked 68 yards and capped off the drive when QB Teddy Bridgewater found former high school teammate Michaelee Harris for the 18 yard score.

Rutgers (needing a score badly) started the drive at their 20 yard line. The Scarlet Knights ran the ball five of their first six plays getting them close to midfield. After gaining yards on their next few plays, the freshman Nova found Mohammed Sanu for the 12 yard score.

That would be all as RU punted the ball and threw an interception on both their next two drives.

When it was all said and done, the Louisville defense proved why its one of the best in the nation. They held a struggling RU rushing attack to 3.0 yards per carry. They also picked off QB Gary Nova three times and in the 4th quarter, and they held Rutgers to a mere 3:00 in time of possession.

San San Te also missed two field goals. His sporadic activity and inconsistency once again hurt the Scarlet Knights' chances.

Rutgers returns next Saturday to High Point Solutions Stadium to take on a 5-2 West Virginia team. Kickoff is set for 3:30.

UPDATE: Louisville cornerback Anthony Conner suffered a broken neck during the game. Conner is still being evaluated, but is in stable condition and can feel his extremities.
