BCS Rankings: Oregon and Teams That Deserve a Higher Rank
The Houston Cougars, Kansas State Wildcats and Oregon Ducks are all teams that deserve a higher rank in the BCS standings. Here is why they should be ranked higher than they currently are.
Houston
The only thing holding Houston back is which team it plays. The Cougars' offense is legit, led by QB Case Keenum. He has thrown for 2,685 yards, 23 touchdowns and two interceptions this season.
It’s time people start talking about the kid because he’s been nothing short of spectacular. Keenum is leading the nation with 442 passing yards per game and the Cougars are first in points per game with 49.
Houston has a chance to move up in the rankings (currently No. 19), but I’m not sure if the schedule will allow them to move up any further. The best victory the Cougars have this season was against UCLA, a team that is 3-4 and just got spanked 48-12 by Arizona.
Kansas State
I wasn’t so sure about Kansas State being No. 11 in the BCS rankings, but it has earned my respect. It isn't the best team in the Big 12, but it is better than people think.
The Wildcats won against Baylor, at Miami, Missouri and at Texas Tech (which looks like a great win now that Texas Tech defeated Oklahoma on the road). However, Kansas State will have a major test this weekend when they host Oklahoma, which coming off the loss.
Kansas State may not have a long-lasting relationship with the top-10 rankings because of which teams it plays in the following weeks: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and then Texas.
Give the team its due now because it may not last.
Oregon
Oregon lost to the best team in the nation—LSU. In fact, the Ducks put up 27 points on the LSU defense, most by any opponent in 2011. If it weren't for four turnovers, Oregon is in the game.
They haven’t been talked about after their loss to start their season, but they will be soon.
The offense is incredible. Chip Kelly knows how to coach his kids and Oregon has the experience of playing in the national championship game. This team is loaded.
Offensively, Oregon is collecting 323 yards, which fourth in the nation. The team is averaging 48 points per game.
It just so happens that LSU is also loaded at even more positions than Oregon. The Ducks were ranked No. 10 to start the week, but they did nothing to move down after their 45-2 victory over Colorado.
Oregon is going to continue to win football games for the next three weeks, setting up a showdown between two top-10 teams when they play Stanford on Nov. 12.
