Texas A&M Football: How the Oklahoma Loss Helps the Aggies
It now seems for certain who will emerge from the Big 12 clutching the championship trophy and for once it isn't the Sooners, the Longhorns, or the Cornhuskers. It's the undefeated Oklahoma State Cowboys and their high-octane offense.
With Texas Tech defeating OU yesterday in a stunning victory, Oklahoma proves to the nation that they aren't what they say they are, and that's national title contenders. Now, the Aggies have the opportunity to finish the year out at second behind the Cowboys and with some luck, reach a BCS Bowl game.
You may be wondering about those Kansas State Wildcats whose undefeated record has stunned the nation so far this season. Well don't worry about them. Their next four games consist of taking on Oklahoma and Texas A&M at home followed by match ups against Oklahoma State and Texas away. If they come out of that stretch unscathed, it will be impressive. Kansas State has one of the hardest four game nodules for any team in college football.
The almighty Sooners have fallen and their crash back to earth will be ground-breaking. The Aggies now know that they stand more than a chance going into Norman two weeks from now, and an A&M victory in each of the next three weeks will secure a spot at the top of the conference.
Oklahoma State's fortunes now look to be clear as they will jump up into third place in the BCS rankings. With the LSU-Alabama SEC implosion coming soon, a clean sweep on the table will propel them into second place and the National Title.
Since the BCS takes two universities from each conference and OSU will be playing in New Orleans for the Crystal Ball, the Aggies have more than just a shot now at a spot in the Fiesta Bowl.
Defeating a still ranked OU team and then a strong K-State team will push A&M into the Top 10 for the second time this year, making a trip to Arizona all the more possible. Staying there though will be much easier this time around, only facing a reeling Kansas and a poor Texas team at home the to close the regular season.
The Sooners' loss is just the right amount of Big 12 drama the Aggies needed to make a BCS Bowl all the more reachable. When A&M strides into Norman two weeks from now, they need to make sure and thank them with another loss.
