The Whole Effin' Show: Wolves Make The Change; Wittman Let Go
The Minnesota Timberwolves finally did what the fans have been requesting for weeks; they fired Randy Wittman.
On Monday, Wittman was mercifully let go. In his place, Kevin McHale named himself the interim head coach and looks to protect his name and team from a complete collapse.
McHale coached Minnesota two seasons ago for 31 games when they let then head coach Dwane Casey go prematurely.
In a related note, McHale has forfeited his executive and personnel power to completely focus on being the head coach of the team.
Wittman posted a 38-105 record in his tenure as coach for the rebuilding Minnesota Timberwolves. Overall, he was terrible across the board. There has been no noticeable improvement from the team or any individual during his stay. His rotations were questionable and without foundation to justify who played with whom, ever. This team is talented enough to be around .500; but they're not mostly because the lack of consistency in the offense or the attention to detail on the defensive end of the floor.
The ownership and executives grew tired of Wittman's act roughly 10 days ago when the team’s owner approached McHale asking him to start holding the coach more accountable for his on-court decisions. After three straight embarrassing loses to similarly talented teams, McHale decided enough was enough and made the change to implant himself as coach.
As a devoted Wolves fan, I’m pleading for this team to have a consistent rotation, constant support, and concrete answers to questions asked by media and fans alike. I am, of course; referring to the answer Wittman gave when asked why he started Kevin Ollie at Point Guard.
He astutely responded with, “I don't know.”
No more Ryan Gomes at PF. No more 26-plus minutes for Craig Smith. No more Kevin Ollie. No more Brian Cardinal. No more Mark Madsen. No more! No more! No more! C'mon Kevin! Show that you're worth something! 19-12 last time, let see that happen again!
