LSU Suspensions: Do the Tigers Really Need Those Guys vs. Auburn, Anyway?
This week, the biggest college football news came out of Baton Rouge, when Tigers head coach Les Miles announced several players would be suspended for the game against Auburn.
Running back Spencer Ware and cornerbacks Tyrann Mathieu and Tharold Simon will not suit up for the game against Auburn.
This news made Auburn fans giddy with excitement. Auburn now believes they have a shot of going into LSU and taking down the top team in the country.
Get real Auburn fans—you don’t have a chance.
LSU is the best team in college football, and they did not achieve this status by having just a few good players on the team.
In Week 1, LSU had to suspend several players—including their starting quarterback—and what happened?
They came out and trounced the then-No. 3 Oregon Ducks. Now Auburn believes that missing a few players will suddenly make LSU beatable at home? Auburn could not beat LSU this season if Cam Newton was again the starting quarterback.
This is the same Auburn team that needed a miracle comeback against Utah State in Week 1.
This is the same Auburn team that allowed a slew of yards and almost lost to Florida Atlantic.
When Auburn has faced a good team, they were soundly trounced. In games against Arkansas and Clemson, Auburn never had a chance—but now all of a sudden they can beat LSU on the road?
Les Miles is a genius, and he has a very deep squad—especially on defense. Simon plays in many of the five-defensive-back formations that most likely will not be needed often against Auburn.
Ware is the leading rusher, but with a complete stable of running backs, it won’t matter who gets the carries. Auburn has the ninth-ranked rush defense in the SEC, so it won’t matter who is carrying the rock. Michael Ford and Alfred Blue will carry this offense on the ground.
It will be sad not to see Mathieu in the secondary making explosive plays, but it just makes room for the next superstar in the LSU secondary to make a name for himself. LSU has seniors that can pick up the slack and will be just as nasty in the secondary.
LSU has revenge on its mind heading into this game, is very capable of dealing with distractions and will blow the doors off the Auburn Tigers on Saturday.
