WWE: Why Christian's Coalition is Being Reformed on SmackDown
Ah, the formation of another stable? If you are an old-school wrestling fan, you have to love the concept.
A stable does many things in wrestling. Not to mention, it creates so many opportunities for us to complain when things change from time to time and we are left wondering if we will ever see wrestling the way we like it again.
But the formation of the "Coalition" is a good thing for SmackDown, the WWE and wrestling.
Christian may be the best wrestler in SmackDown who does not have a title. And yes, I know there are many on the roster who are worthy, including Randy Orton and Sheamus.
But hear me out.
The formation of the "Coalition" (or whatever brand name you wish to put on it), does certain things for Christian and the plot line.
Christian will not be in the title picture as long as there is a Mark Henry, Big Show, Kane, etc. He is a middleweight in a land of giants. His mouth now becomes his most important asset to the business.
Being a wrestler and a main-eventer for 17 years means he knows when to run his mouth and give younger stars the push (Sheamus) that they need.
The stable also adds more life to the changes that are happening in the WWE.
He is a leader, and while Vickie Guerrero is a manager and an "equal" in those terms, Christian is just as hated and received as the "Cougar," and therefore gets more pop from the audience.
The stable comprised of Christian, Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes and Jack Swagger could be perceived as another version of the "Horsemen," with a leader and followers who also carry belts, are good on the mic and can wrestle anyone.
The weak link in all this would be David Otunga, but that could be remedied.
And if there is some interest from Alberto Del Rio, then the plot thickens.
If there is one stable running the program, then it helps to create the formation of other stables, or coalitions or whatever you want to call it.
There are many ways to go about this, and the idea that the "Supershow" allows for cross-brand matches means there will be more opportunity for a Sheamus or a John Morrison or even a John Cena to form their own version of a "Kliq" and face the opposition.
All too often, we lose sight of the past that has helped create the present.
We remember DX, the Horsemen, The Hart Foundation and (if you are old like me) Paul Jones' Army. Those were real stables, where wrestlers mattered, worked with each other and helped to preserve the business and the titles they owned. We do not see that today.
The Coalition could change that and make stables cool again.
And it also means that if possible, all four men gain titles, they control the balance of power, which leads to another pretty cool angle that the creative team can explore.
The options could be endless, if the Coalition is brought along correctly and Christian takes the lead and runs with it.
