10 MMA Fighters and Movie Roles They Could Have Played
MMA fighters may be going "mainstream" with their Fox TV deal, but they haven't made it to the big screen yet. Hollywood has called MMA fighters for a variety of small, nonessential roles in TV and films.
But what would some of our favorite MMA fighters look like if they were put onto the big screen?
Bonus! Dana White
1 of 10Just imagine Dana White sitting perched above the octagon watching an ugly slugfest that has all the fans cheering. And now imagine Dana looking on and saying, "Good, good." This would then be followed by an evil laughter that we all know DW has.
And who honestly thinks that Dana doesn't have a little dark side in him?
Roy Nelson
2 of 10He's the lovable fat guy that everyone wants to root for. He may fail miserably a few times but eventually he overcomes everything and we still love him through it all.
That sums up virtually every role Kevin James plays in his movies these days. The big guy who can't seem to cut it but yet he still manages to get the job done.
Chael Sonnen
3 of 10Chael Sonnen is a little out there. Ok well, WAY out there. Whether it was saying, "That wasn't me. Sounded like a guy with a Hispanic accent." Or still claiming he is the middleweight champion, not Anderson Silva, Chael makes some outlandish statements at times.
But, for most people, the guy makes them laugh even though we understand no normal human being thinks like that.
Johnny Depp's "Jack Sparrow" character could've been played by Sonnen perfectly. Jack has an odd way about him and sometimes says things that make his partners in crime raise their eyebrows. But somehow, Sparrow makes it all come together for our comedic enjoyment.
Jon Jones
4 of 10Jon Jones' MMA career continues to get better and better. He's ran through two former champions and destroyed a top prospect on his path to the belt. When we watch Jones fight, he seems to be faster, stronger, bigger and better than his opponents in every facet of the game.
He's not immortal but surely there's a way to beat him right?
Jones could've fit into the role of Achilles from "Troy". Achilles was said to be immortal, a gift from the gods but there was a catch. He was immortal from the head to the ankles because that's as far as his mother dipped the baby into the water that would make him immortal.
Just as Achilles has his one "Achilles' heel", Jones has to have a weakness somewhere. We just have to wait for someone to exploit it.
Brock Lesnar
5 of 10Other than the comparable physical appearances, Brock Lesnar and The Hulk have some things in common.
Lesnar is one of the more reserved, quiet people in MMA. Getting an interview with Brock is like chasing after the Holy Grail.
But when Brock steps into the cage, he turns into a wrecking ball. Brock may be a little more reserved than most, but "don't make him angry."
Frankie Edgar
6 of 10The obvious role for Frankie Edgar would've been Rocky, but Dana White has already overkilled it on the Rocky comparisons.
Another role Edgar would be perfect for is the role of Wolverine from "X-Men". He's not hairy and doesn't possess animal-like qualities, but he has the superhuman healing powers.
If Edgar were on the movie set he wouldn't even need to act. All he would need is Gray Maynard to come on set and clock him with a hook and we could watch the healing powers take over.
Antonio Rogdrigo Nogueira
7 of 10Big Nog wouldn't be Robocop because they're an unstoppable cyborg organism. Nog fits this character because just as we think Officer Alex Murphy's life is over, he is reborn.
Nogueira has had moments in his UFC career where we've considered it dead or on life support, at best. But each time Nogueira comes back and we immediately declare that he's back.
Josh Koscheck
8 of 10"You need people like me. That way you can point your finger and say, 'That's the bad guy.'"
Just as the movie screen needs a good bad guy, MMA needs some too. Koscheck could've been perfect as Tony Montana because just as Montana embraced his role as "the bad guy", so has Kos.
Is Kos a bad person? Not at all. But he's seen how the fans react to him and ran with it.
And not that I'm trying to say Kos has a coke addiction, but he sure does wiggle his nose enough.
Georges St-Pierre
9 of 10GSP would be a perfect "Borg King" to go with their Queen. GSP is devoid of a personality and continuously strives for perfection.
For all of you non-trekkies out there, "The Borg" are basically a species that roams the galaxy, assimilating other cultures into their own to reach perfection. An interesting side note is when they're involved in a firefight, the Borg drones can "adapt" their shields to block any incoming fire.
Just as the Borg look to take the best quality from each victim, GSP examines each of his next victims and adapts his strategy to fighting his opponent where they're weakest.
As a fan, you can really see that "resistance is futile" when challenging St-Pierre.
Anderson Silva
10 of 10Anderson Silva has so much talent it seems that he has gotten bored with fighting. His bouts against Thales Leites and Damian Maia show us that much. But when Chael Sonnen made his way to the top, Anderson's attitude changed. After the Sonnen fight we saw "the old" Anderson Silva; the guy who could finish a fight in a moment's notice.
Will Smith's "Hancock" character could be played by Silva because Hancock has extraordinary gifts, but has become bored with life. Finally presented with a reason to care in the movie, Hancock begins to use his powers for the benefit of mankind compared to the destruction of property.
