BCS Mess
All Texas-in, Texas-out controversy aside, the entire BCS bowl marathon is not particularly compelling to say the least.
If the NCAA doesn't figure out a playoff, the BCS Championship is going to end up getting pushed all the way back to Valentine’s Day.
JAN 1 – Orange Bowl
Miami, No. 19 Virginia Tech (9-4) vs. No. 12 Cincinnati (10-2), 8:30 p.m. – Sorry Hokies, but in terms of national implications and the BCS, this one is a yawner.
JAN 1 – Rose Bowl
Pasadena, No. 5 USC (11-1) vs. No. 8 Penn State (11-1), 4:30 p.m., ABC – USC pounds the Nittanies and complains about being left out of the title game. (Note to Trojans: Don’t lose to Oregon State.)
JAN 2 – Sugar Bowl
New Orleans, No. 4 Alabama (12-1) vs. No. 6 Utah (12-0), 8 p.m., FOX – Like the Orange Bowl, if you aren’t a Crimson Tider, you don’t care. Is Utah good enough to play with Alabama? Probably not. Do we care enough to watch and find out? Probably not.
JAN 5 – Fiesta Bowl
Glendale, No. 3 Texas (11-1) vs. No. 10 Ohio State (10-2), 8 p.m. FOX – Who gets to clobber the consistently over-ranked Buckeyes in a BCS bowl? And the winner of the beat-Ohio-State-lottery…is…drum role, please…The Longhorns.
JAN 8 - BCS Championship
Miami, No. 1 Oklahoma (12-1) vs. No. 2 Florida (12-1), 8 p.m., FOX -- This game should live up to it’s expectations, too bad it’s played in what will feel like early February and the middle of basketball season.
The quality of the game could be negatively impacted by the simple fact that both teams will be idle for a month between now and then.
Jan. 8...Really, BCS, really?
