Week 7 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Don't Rely on Mark Sanchez vs. Chargers

Ryan RudnanskyOct 19, 2011

Quarterback Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets may have gotten back into in the win column in Week 6 against the Miami Dolphins, but they didn't look very impressive in the process.

Sanchez has actually been better than expected this season in fantasy football, in part because the Jets are beginning to realize they can't ground and pound when they don't have anyone in the backfield to frighten anyone.

However, Sanchez will drop off in Week 7.

Here is your "Start 'Em, Sit 'Em" for the week.

Start 'Em: Josh Freeman, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Josh Freeman hasn't been as good this season in the fantasy department as expected, but he's beginning to show why the Buccaneers have tabbed him as their franchise quarterback.

In Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints, Freeman broke out of his early-season slump, throwing for 303 yards and two touchdowns. He's beginning to get a better feel for young receivers Arrelious Benn and Preston Parker, and it's starting to show.

In Week 7, Freeman faces the Chicago Bears, a team that has given up the seventh-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season. The Bears defense as a whole has been uncharacteristically forgiving this season and is allowing 275 passing yards per game so far. The pass defense had a good game in Week 6, but that's because the Bears were facing Donovan McNabb and rookie Christian Ponder.

I expect Freeman to continue proving his beginning to the season was a fluke.

Sit 'Em: Mark Sanchez, QB, New York Jets

Mark Sanchez faced a very weak Dolphins secondary in Week 6, and all he managed to do was pass for 201 yards and one touchdown.

Against the notoriously strong pass defense of the San Diego Chargers, however, Sanchez is going to have a hard time leading his team to victory. Through five games, the 4-1 Chargers have limited their opponents to just 179.6 passing yards per game. They've also allowed the 10th-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

Those of you clinging onto Sanchez for whatever reason may want to think about breaking off your relationship this week.
