BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications
Houston is incredibly No. 19 in the BCS standings after a nice 6-0 run to start the season.
Marshall has been struggling and is currently sitting at 3-4 going into their third game against a ranked opponent.
Houston cannot afford to lose or even play Marshall tight because their strength of schedule has been quite weak.
If they want to maintain or move up in the polls and BCS rankings, they need to win big.
Key Storyline
These two teams last met back in 2008.
Marshall won the matchup, 37-23, on their home turf.
Can they pull an upset victory on the road and ride the victory momentum they have from the previous game over Rice?
I highly doubt it, but we’ll see.
What They’re Saying
The Associated Press is saying that Houston QB Case Keenum and his Cougars offense have similarities to their powerful teams from over two decades ago.
"“The last time the Houston Cougars were 6-0 was back in 1990, the heyday of David Klingler and the run-and-shoot offense.
The current Cougars compare to that bunch in more ways than one, crashing into the Top 25 behind a seemingly unstoppable offense. And while Houston takes aim at an unbeaten season, senior quarterback Case Keenum is closing in on records not even Klingler or 1989 Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware could reach.”
"
The Big Lead found out that Vinny Curry, the star senior DE for the Thundering Herd, has been named the FWAA Defensive Player of the Week.
"“Curry, a 6-3, 263-pound senior from Neptune, N.J., made nine tackles, including four tackles for losses (3.5 sacks) along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the Thundering Herd’s 24-20 victory over Rice.
The sacks were all on third down, halting Rice drives. His strip of Rice running back Sam McGuffie set up the Herd offense at the Rice 23-yard line with 3:31 remaining in the game. Marshall scored the game-winning touchdown five plays later.”

Marshall Player to Watch: Vinny Curry
After watching that clip, you can see why this kid was named the best defensive player of the week.
He is an absolute monster and leads the nation in tackles for loss and is second in sacks.
Houston Player to Watch: Case Keenum
Keenum leads the No. 1 passing offense and No. 4 scoring team in the nation.
He has a cannon of an arm and can make all the throws.
He is only 6-foot-2, 210 pounds and was only offered a single D-1 scholarship by Houston. I bet they are glad they took the chance on him.
Key Matchup: Curry vs. Keenum
One of the best pass rushers in the nation is going to need to put pressure on one of the best QBs in the game if he wants to give his team a chance.
If Keenum has time to throw, they are going to absolutely eviscerate Marshall through the air.
If Curry can get to the backfield and cause chaos, Marshall has a chance.
