5 Fighters That Should NEVER Pose for ESPN The Magazine Body Issue

Matt JuulOct 18, 2011

Last week, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones caused a commotion in the mixed martial arts world with his latest ESPN The Magazine: The Body Issue appearance.

Jones landed himself in the third annual "the Body Issue," baring it all in front of the camera.

Luckily, Jones' physique made the picture more palatable to casual readers.

In a sport as diverse as MMA, there are some less than spectacular looking fighters out there who I'm sure fans would not want to see in future issues of the magazine.

Here are the top five fighters that should NEVER pose for "The Body Issue."

Cole Konrad

1 of 5

Bellator heavyweight champion Cole Konrad is an internationally decorated wrestler and a powerful MMA fighter.

Pinnacle of physical perfection? Not so much.

A training partner of former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, Konrad may have great wrestling like the former champ, but definitely not the physique.

I don't think him posing would go over well with casual readers.

Roy Nelson

2 of 5

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson seems to revel in the fact that he is does not fit the norm of the conventional athlete.

Sporting a gut that just smothers opponents from the top, it just would not work for this issue.

UFC President Dana White probably would not like seeing Nelson in it either, with one of many obvious reasons being that Nelson would have more reason not to cut the weight.

It would be funny seeing Nelson pose with his infamous belly out stance that he uses after wins.

Dan Severn

3 of 5

The 53-year-old Dan Severn has been in the game a long time.

Amassing 100 total career victories, Severn is a legend of the sport.

But at his age and sporting a mustache that would put Ron Jeremy to shame, seeing this MMA pioneer in a body issue today would not be ideal.

He is, however, the best physically conditioned fighter on the list—an amazing feat at his age.

But for some reason, I can't help but think '70s adult films when I look at this guy, which makes an appearance in a body issue a fantasy I hope never sees the light of day.

Zuluzinho

4 of 5

Zuluzinho, weighing in almost 400 lbs, has always been one of those freak show fighters fans back in the day found humorous to watch.

Never really finding much success in the cage against higher level opponents, Zuluzinho is still chugging along on the lower tier MMA circuits.

For obvious reasons, the superheavyweight Brazilian should never be allowed in an issue—probably because you'd need more than one page to fit him.

Butterbean

5 of 5

Butterbean. What can be said about Eric Esch that hasn't already been said.

A long time veteran of the boxing ring and MMA cage, Butterbean has had a decent amount of success in his fighting career.

Surprisingly, the 77-8-4 boxer has 11 submission wins in his MMA career.

Weighing in at over 400 lbs, call me crazy, but I just don't see a body issue in his future.
