TNA Bound for Glory 2011: Results and Reflections from Last Night

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 17, 2011

TNA Bound for Glory 2011 is in the books, and I have to say I was a little more impressed than I expected to be by the show.

Mexican America defeated Ink Inc to retain the tag titles in the opening bout. This came as a surprise to me as I was sure Ink Inc would take home the belts last night.

Mexican America is a team I am still not sure if I will ever like, but Ink Inc is a team I know I want to keep seeing on TV, so hopefully they get another show sometime soon.

Crimson defeated Samoa Joe and Matt Morgan in a match that did not impress the way I thought it would. With Joe and Morgan both being pretty experienced in the ring, I thought they could make the triple threat match the match of the night. I was wrong. Not a bad effort but nowhere near the quality I expected.

Austin Aries defeated Brian Kendrick in a decent match that saw Aries get a good ovation from the crowd. This match was better than half the other matches on the card, and I hope the feud between these two continues.

Aries has shown some pretty good potential and Kendrick has always been a good performer, so they could easily extend this through the next PPV.

RVD beat Jerry Lynn in the full metal mayhem match that was also a grudge match dating back to their time in ECW.

Lynn and RVD were impressive as always, but this match showed how far out of their prime these two men are. While they still performed above most talents, they were nowhere near what they once were.

Mr Anderson beat Bully Ray in a falls count anywhere match that was better than I expected. The ending was interesting as it was clear the table should have broken during the Kenton bomb.

Instead, he had to Mic Check Ray through the table in a bit of improv wrestling. Anderson seems almost bored in TNA because he is meant for a larger stage like WWE. It's too bad issues led to his release.

Velvet Sky won the Knockouts title in a very good fatal four-way match. She has always been one of the knockouts I felt was the most underrated, so it's nice to see her get some gold around her waist.

Daniels and AJ Styles put on the match of the night by far. They pulled out all the stops and a screwdriver to try and settle their beef.

Frankly, I was a little shocked that Daniels outright said he was going to murder Styles, and the use of the screwdriver was another surprise.

This kind of thing would not fly in the PG WWE, but in TNA it seems to be alright.

Sting beat Hulk Hogan in a match that showed how truly out of touch Hogan is. He still thinks a babyface turn requires simply changing sides halfway through the battle.

His turn and subsequent beatdown of Immortal was pointless and had virtually no impact on how I saw the match. Sting did his best and I give Hogan a lot of effort for trying, but he needs to finally hang up the boots.

And finally, in the most controversial match of the night, Kurt Angle retained his title against BFG series winner Robert Roode.

Roode had his hand under the rope so this will most likely lead to a rematch, but if Angle was as hurt after the match as he appeared, he may end up relinquishing the title if he can't defend it at the next PPV.

This match was great in terms of the action, and at times I really felt I was going to see Roode take home the gold, but TNA had to screw it up like they do with every good thing that comes their way.

Overall, BFG was a pretty standard TNA event with some good matches and some bad matches.

How did you feel last night's event went?
