His For The Taking.
In Saturday's nights "Dream Match" the fighter with more to lose is Oscar De la Hoya. When a truly non-bias approach is given to looking at De la Hoya's career you will find that the "Golden Boy" is an overrated, and over hyped. In Saturdays fight he is making a second attempt in three fights to defeat the so-called pound for pound best in the world, with a defeat to the much smaller Pacquiao, De la Hoya collects a defeat at the hands of a much smaller, yet more entertaining fighter.
When De la Hoya's legacy is mentioned, one has to laugh. The fights that stick out in my mind the most are the ones that he won, yet didnt win. Considering that De la Hoya was given a win against Flex Sturm, Pernell Whitaker, and Ike Quartey, you have to know that he is a product of outstanding public relations.
Regardless of the outcome, Pacquiao will still be considered a superstar. Most fighters would rather fight guys that arent in their class skill wise and then claim to be great fighters because they've beaten a couple good figthers. Pacquiao's style is crowd pleasing and that is why he will become a superstar even with a loss to the "Golden Boy".
It is hard to imagine how this fight is considered a candidate for the fight of the year. Oscar will come out hard for the first two or three rounds. Then he will begin to slow down and Manny will use his speed and varied punching attacking to break De la Hoya down to a steady crawl. De la Hoya does not like body punches and you can rest assured that Freddie Roach will have a primed Pacquiao expose this glaring weakness.
In terms of what Saturday's fight means to the game of boxing, its simple, a HUGE pay day for both fighter.
Win, lose, or Draw I just dont see De la Hoya pulling this one out. The fight will go in the favor of Pacquiao and the sad thing is that the larger, stronger De le Hoya will be unable to with stand the relentless Pacquiao attack.
My pick, Pacquiao by decision.
