Week 6 Fantasy Football Projections: Brandon Marshall and WRs Who Will Bust

Mike ChiariOct 15, 2011

Perhaps the most unstable position in fantasy football is wide receiver. It is very difficult for receivers to put up big numbers on a weekly basis because it depends on a lot of factors such as quarterback play and defensive focus.

Because of that, your studs aren't going to come up big for you every week. Here are three star receivers who will struggle to produce in Week 6.

Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts

Aside from the season-opening game against the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne has had a really tough year. With Peyton Manning under center, Wayne has long been one of the most consistent pass catchers in the league, but he has struggled to adjust to life without Manning.

Wayne's rapport was on and off with Kerry Collins and it is virtually non-existent with Curtis Painter. It seems as though Painter much prefers throwing to Pierre Garcon, and he has ignored Wayne a bit. Wayne is also in for a tough matchup this week against the Cincinnati Bengals and cornerback Leon Hall. Receivers haven't been very successful against Hall this year and I expect that to continue.

DeSean Jackson, Philadelphia Eagles

There are few more feast-or-famine wide receivers in the NFL than the Philadelphia Eagles' DeSean Jackson. His explosiveness allows him to make incredible plays down the field, but his slight frame doesn't allow him to work the middle of the field effectively. This limits the amount of catches he can makes and forces him to make big plays to bolster his fantasy value.

Jackson has had three games with over 100 yards or a touchdown this season, and two games where he has caught just two passes, so you never really know what you're going to get. The Eagles will have to contend with a solid Washington Redskins pass defense on Sunday that tries to limit big plays. Because of that, this could be another two-catch effort for Jackson.

Brandon Marshall, Miami Dolphins

With a new quarterback under center and a Monday night date with New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, all signs point to a rough Week 6 for Miami Dolphins receiver Brandon Marshall. In his second year in Miami, Marshall has played much more consistently, but he hasn't mirrored the big numbers he put up while in Denver.

If nothing else, Marshall at least seemed comfortable with quarterback Chad Henne, but with Henne out for the season, Marshall will have to get acclimated with Matt Moore. Also, the Dolphins will have to contend with the Jets' pass defense, and Marshall specifically will be mirrored by Revis. Because of that adjustment period and matchup, expectations should be low for Marshall this week.
