WWE: How the Heels Have Won the War
Vince McMahon has been removed from his lofty position chief operating officer to massive cheers and jeers. Triple H was then named the replacement.
It seems that this would be an ideal move, yet when main executive positions are changed, it is usually surrounded by controversy. In this case it was. It was also surrounded by a conspiracy.
The conspiracy would continuously evolve. CM Punk states that WWE has been a company revolving around an unchanged status quo, namely main player John Cena.
This would lead to Punk’s supposed last match and world championship victory at Money in the Bank. Punk's exit brought a speech in which Vince would say that no individual is bigger than the WWE.
This would lead to the aforementioned COO spot being taken over.
Awesome Truth would kick start the “conspiracy” idea fairly early in HHH’s reign, but it was John Laurinaitis, WWE executive vice president of talent relations, that would soon become the figurehead of the conspiracy.
As time grew on, it was clear someone didn’t want CM Punk in the main event or Triple H as the COO. The main adversaries on both sides were the heels of the Raw roster.
A few weeks ago an unnoticed advancement occurred. David Otunga would become relevant and finally become a key player on his own merits. His law degree would only build an impending victory for the heels and quickly alter the current course of WWE programming.
In the next few slides, we will bear witness to how WWE has changed its current course, if the conspiracy is truly over and if so, who the victors are.
The Conspiracy
1 of 7Money in the Bank 2010 could considerably be when the conspiracy began.
During the Raw Money in the Bank match, the Miz emerged triumphant. Many speculated that he would be the first wrestler to lose when he cashed in (much the same as Daniel Bryan's current situation). On November 22, 2011, The Miz would defeat Randy Orton for the WWE Championship.
In this current era, Miz proved to not be merely a transitional champion. The Miz's final glorious moment came at Wrestlemania 28, a match he would again be largely speculated to lose.
Everything came to a halt for the Miz at Over the Limit in June 2011.
John Cena would regain the belt, and Alex Riley, Miz's protege and NXT rookie, would severely damage his mentor's credibility, soundly defeating the Miz at Capitol Punishment.
The Miz would not be content to stand still. He figured that when he was so dominant, it could not be his fault that he was losing steam.
While the Miz would start considering a possible conspiracy occurring in WWE, it was R-Truth that coined the term. R-Truth gained the push of a lifetime at Capitol Punishment when after years of turmoil and frustration, he would get a title shot. John Cena beat R-Truth with help from the little Jimmys.
This would cause Truth to go even more insane and eventually partner with the Miz. Together they would be Awesome Truth (perhaps it was more than a combination of names perhaps it was a name paying homage to the supposed conspiracy).
They would soon be fired quickly for wreaking havoc. At Hell In a Cell, they sabotaged the main event, attacked various wrestlers, referees, and, of course HHH. This led to HHH retaliating and striking back, eventually firing the two.
Following the assault by Awesome Truth, the wrestlers led a walkout on Raw. As soon as Laurinaitis was made interim GM, the two were rehired.
John Laurinaitis: Power Hungry and Driven to Sabotage
2 of 7Controversy is nothing new to the man formerly known as Johnny Ace. Laurinaitis destroyed the developmental system. When it was stable, he would call up wrestlers who were simply not attuned to the WWE style.
Who can forget his idea to add a leprechaun named Hornswoggle to the cold and calculated Finlay's future story lines and matches? Realistically, this proves that Laurinaitis is power driven.
Triple H still wanted to believe that he was a valuable asset.
His reward? John Laurinaitis doing everything in his power to torment HHH's existence and position as COO.
A lawsuit idea implied by David Otunga and Awesome Truth, who despite supposedly being fired, Laurinaitis seemingly brought back on multiple occasions.
Shortly after attacks on nearly the entire roster from wrestlers to announcers to refs to divas and so on, John confronted Triple H and got him to ask for a vote of confidence. The answer was a definitive no.
This in someways can be compared to a formation of another well-known empire. In many cases Laurinaitis, who quietly manipulated his way to to the top, proved to be the WWE's backstage mastermind.
It paid off when he took over as interim GM. It's hard to envision him giving up his newly found power.
CM Punk: Main Event Status Yet Momentum Halted
3 of 7CM Punk in many cases caused Vince McMahon to go insane when he walked out at Money in The Bank in protest of previous events.
This would lead others to consider the current state of the WWE while Punk was crusading before and after Money in the Bank. Punk's return to the company set the stage for a champion vs. champion match at SummerSlam with John Cena.
CM Punk won the WWE championship at SummerSlam. This could have solidified him for years. But alas, Alberto Del Rio cashed in his Money in the Bank contract at the event. In typical fashion, he won after the champion was laid out, something Punk himself is familiar with.
He would cut promos against Triple H and Kevin Nash, who attacked Punk only to be "fired" moments later. He made a less than shocking return at Night of Champions, dropping Punk with multiple jackknifes.
In the midst of the CM Punk/Nash/HHH/Cena rivalry, Del Rio would capitalize on his destined moment and become champion again. CM Punk's push is still huge but it is waning.
At Night Of Champions John Cena would defeat Del Rio, only to lose the championship to Del Rio at Hell In A Cell. As of Laurinaitis taking over on the October 10th Raw, CM Punk has yet to be given a rematch.
This fact alone states that the conspiracy is/was not against Triple H alone. It is against anyone who tries to oppose the creators of the conspiracy. Currently, CM Punk is at the same place he was at before winning the WWE Championship at Money In The Bank.
The Start of a Stable
4 of 7On the August 15th Raw Jack Swagger went to Vickie Guerrero, who had managed past champions, mentioning managers who had more than one client.
Seemingly, either Jack Swagger or Dolph Ziggler would turn face soon after. This hasn't happened. Instead, the thing that Swagger wanted Vickie to do has happened thanks to Vickie's partnership with David Otunga.
The stable appears to also consist of Christian, Alberto Del Rio, and Cody Rhodes. The stable would become a key factor to the walkout's success.
DX Might Possibly Re-Form
5 of 7DX came back for a short time during the past month.
Supposedly it was a one-time event, the relevance to how the heels won Raw is the Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels. Triple H and the Undertaker battled in a war that the Undertaker would win to keep his Wrestlemania streak alive. A year prior, the Undertaker retired HBK.
Surely HBK wanted Triple H to avenge him. Instead, Triple H lost valiantly, and HBK's last match is becoming a cherished memory. Is this really what Michaels wants?
In various promos, he encouraged and discouraged Triple H leading up to this battle. Similar to these promos, there was another past reunion of DX that would show dissension.
Triple H backstabbed Shawn (July, 22, 2002) by giving him a pedigree when he least expected it. This month a DVD featuring the Montreal Screwjob at the 1997 Survivor Series where Vince and Shawn screw Bret Hart due to not agreeing to drop his WWE championship before joining WCW.
What if Laurinaitis was merely Shawn's pawn in a bigger scheme to finally get back at Triple H? When the DVD is released, the following event is Surivor Series. Shawn could commemorate one screwjob by committing another nearly a decade after Triple H turned his back on Shawn.
Will John Cena Ever Turn Heel?
6 of 7If Shawn does turn on Triple H, only one thing would top it. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall joined WCW in one of the most shocking turn of events in professional history. Something more shocking would occur shortly after at the Bash at the Beach '96.
Hall and Nash destroyed the opposing team ,Randy Savage, Sting, Lex Luger. Hulk Hogan emerged to massive cheers. The team of Hall and Nash claimed to have a third individual on their team, yet that person remained anonymous.
A leg drop on Randy Savage followed Hogan's entrance. He was that man.
Like Hogan, nobody who follows the wrestling industry on any level expects John Cena to turn heel. A few contributing factors could lead WWE to make this move. The Internet wrestling community has a vigorous hatred for Cena. John Cena has been known to never cater to this group.
Yet the hatred has only intensified as the years progressed. This has to eat away at Cena.
Hatred causes doubt in yourself, and this would play into two parts of John Cena's credo, those loyalty and respect. The third part would also be played on as working hard or having an intense hustle can be slowed down by immense sadness.
Fans' hatred can cause that sadness. If the Internet's hatred for Cena has grown, his merchandise sales have slowed.
CM Punk and Zack Ryder, if utilized correctly, are either outselling or will outsell Cena in the years to come. If Ryder gets the right push, his emergence could lead to jealousy, since currently Ryder is just a mid-card wrestler.
When the WWE Network is created, it's feasible to see Ryder playing a major role on a heavily promoted reality show. If this occurs, Cena will have fallen to the number three seller in WWE and in need of a change up. Thirdly John Cena still claims to be the Doctor of Thuganomics. This phrase started during his initial heel stint. The chain was more than the necklace it is today.
Cena would knockout opponents frequently with it. It's hard to see if a man who once was driven with anger has lost every bit of it, spending the past years as the Internet's most hated wrestler. If Cena turns heel, that could be the ultimate victory for the heels winning the war.
Other Ways the Heels Won the War
7 of 7While the last few slides are the ways what will and what has occurred to the heels winning the war, there are a few other events that have led and will continue to lead to heel domination.
1.Mark Henry destroys Randy Orton on two occasions, finally capturing the world title. Mark Henry's Hall of Pain has to be a source of fear for many wrestlers currently on the roster.
So far he has destroyed many top faces: Orton, Kane, Big Show, and Jerry Lawler. This probably led to Lawler's objection to Triple H. His main citation of unsafe working environments only occurred after he was slammed viciously through an announce table after trying to protect a defenseless JR.
Surely, Mark Henry's abuse weighed heavily on his mind during his walkout speech.
2.Wade Barrett gets a renewed push. Wade Barrett spent the summer months of 2010 causing pain and agony very similar to that of Awesome Truth.
His group, The Nexus, ran roughshod over WWE with Barrett as the leader. The heels have be somewhat victorious when a surefire career heel was made voice of the WWE wrestlers not involved in the Otunga/Vickie alliance.
3. J.R. is fired. Jim Ross was brought back to the WWE when Triple H became COO. Jim Ross has been one of the most respected and revered announcers for quite some time.
His comeback seemed like a return to more balanced commentating with Jim Ross being a mediator between Michael Cole and Lawler.
After the aforementioned attack by Mark Henry, it is easy to see why Ross would walk out on the man who brought him back to the company. Unfortunately, Laurinaitis didn't see it this way and fired him quickly.
The final reason the heels are and will be victorious is debatable, we have yet to see if Vince was sabotaged when he was dropped as COO or if he is the whole orchestrator of the conspiracy. The weeks that follow will provide more answers to the burning questions.
'Till next time.
