College Football Recruiting 2012: Worst Recruiting Class in Each BCS Conference
I decided to revisit these college football recruiting rankings to see if there are to be any changes to the worst honors.
The big six BCS conferences—or automatic qualifiers, as they are properly known—are the most competitive leagues in college football.
For this read, we're going to take a look at the worst recruiting class in each BCS conference. These teams are not on track to building teams that will challenge for BCS conference titles and bowls in three to four years.
Here we go.
Big East: South Florida
1 of 6This was a tough one for me, as I thought about going with Syracuse for the Big East. Yet I'm sticking with South Florida.
The Bulls only have 11 commitments, which is decent, but they have just one 4-star recruit lined up in TE Sean Price.
I think this class will need some time to develop, and as it does, other classes in the conference may be more productive on the field faster.
Big 12: Kansas
2 of 6Last time, I went with Kansas State. Now, the more I look at it, Kansas has the bottom class in the heartland right now.
Turner Gill has just eight committed players, and frankly, none are big names. Not to say they won't or can't develop into good players, but this class has no star power.
The highest-rated player is TE Jordan Smith, whom Scout.com ranks as the 39th-best TE prospect in the country.
ACC: Wake Forest
3 of 6Wake Forest has 12 commitments, but only six of the recruits are even rated 3-stars.
That's not good. At all.
Wake has never been a powerhouse on the trail, but the Demon Deacons have to pick it up this cycle because they're on pace for one of the least impressive classes in the nation for 2012.
Big Ten: Illinois
4 of 6I got tempted by Nebraska, but I like the makeup of their class, with Tommy Armstrong's recent commitment helping out a lot. Instead, I'm sticking with Ron Zook and Illinois.
Zook and the Illini have the worst class in the Big Ten right now. He's got just nine commitments, and none are 4-star recruits.
This current Illini class is ranked in the low/bottom 60s nationally at the moment.
Pac-12: Utah
5 of 6The Utes' recruiting reach will expand as years move on, but right now, they take the cake for the Pac-12.
Utah has 11 commitments, with seven being 3-star recruits. Sure, Utah doesn't appear on sexy lists for high-profile recruits, but I'm not feeling this class right now.
California was also considered here.
SEC: Ole Miss
6 of 6I'm sticking with the Rebels for SEC representation on this list. Sorry Ole Miss fans, but your current 2012 recruiting class is the worst in the SEC at the moment.
Houston Nutt has 10 commitments, and nine of them are just 3-star players.
I don't know what the deal is, as Ole Miss had a pretty good class last year. The highest-rated player is 3-star TE prospect Austin Ray from Missouri.
