Oklahoma State vs. Texas: Why Oklahoma State Might Be Best Team in the Big 12
Oklahoma State has not lost any ground since one of the greatest seasons in all of school history. Dana Holgorsen and Kendall Hunter are both gone, but the Cowboys are still putting up more points than anyone else in the country, with 51 per game.
Their defense is still giving up a bunch of yards, but they have only played one team not in the top half of the country in points scored. It also had a huge second half against Texas A&M, which ultimately propelled them to beat the Aggies on the road.
Given all of those factors, Oklahoma State may just be the best team in the state—ahead of Oklahoma.
The Sooners have played three teams that were ranked at some point this season, but Florida State and Missouri now have losing records, which leaves Texas as their best win. They put on a dominating performance, particularly on defense, where they scored three times and only allowed 17 points.
This week will be the first week where the two Oklahoma schools will have a common opponent, so we will know a lot more based on how the Cowboys play on Saturday. That said, it is important to remember Mack Brown’s history in games following the Red River Rivalry—he is 13-0 in them during his time at Texas.
The game will also be played in Austin, and the crowd will be anxious to get revenge for last year’s loss.
Things seem to be lining up against Oklahoma State in this game, but if they can stop Case McCoy and company, there is no way the Longhorns will outscore them in this game.
If the Pokes can beat Texas the same way Oklahoma did, Oklahoma State will be the state of Oklahoma and consequently be the best team in the Big 12.
