TNA Bound for Glory: Do We Need to See Another Sting vs. Hogan Match?

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 13, 2011

This Sunday at Bound For Glory, two legends will step into the ring against each other one last time. Sting and Hulk Hogan have as storied a history as any two men in the business. After this Sunday, they will have had matches in three different decades.

During the 1990s, Sting was a rising star in WCW. He had become a main event player early on after Ric Flair helped elevate the former body builder. Sting's signature face point and war cry helped him stand out from the other wrestlers who chose to wear trunks and tights with little to no flare.

Hogan came into WCW and immediately rose to the top and won the World Title. Sting and Hogan were on-again- off-again allies for years until Hogan turned his back on WCW and joined Hall and Nash to form the NWO.

Sting went on a hiatus during the time when the NWO was wreaking havoc on everyone in WCW. Sting returned with a new, darker image that seemed to mirror The Crow.

Sting began stalking the NWO but focused his sights on Hogan in particular. Going months without speaking, Sting finally made it clear to JJ Dillon that he wanted Hogan.

He finally got his chance at Starcade 1997. They fought an epic battle that night and continued to fight more battles over the years to end up having one of the longest feuds in history.

Now they are set to have one more match. Hogan is in the worst shape of his life in terms of his ability in the ring. Reports have said that due to his back issues, he will be unable to perform any bumps in the ring, which is why the match will be no disqualification.

Ric Flair was going to make the match a triple threat, but he is out because of injury, so now it looks as if the two men whose careers are winding down will face off one more time.

This match, in my opinion, should not be happening. Sting is still an active wrestler, but Hogan is in no shape to compete after the last couple years of back surgeries.

His performance will no doubt be limited, and the use of his signature leg drop is completely out of the question.

Sting can still pull out a good match when given an opponent with some skill, but this will be a disaster unless other people get involved and Hogan's use in the match can be limited to a few punches while Sting is being beaten down by others.

I hope for Hogan and Sting's sake that TNA has some kind of plan in place other than having them fight a full match.

Do you think Hogan and Sting should be fighting at BFG?
