WWE: 10 Wrestlers Who Are a Referees Worst Nightmare

Kyle SymesOct 12, 2011

The referee is the third man in the ring. He's supposed to "be there but not be there" at the same time. He's only there to count to three and ask if the superstar wants to continue.

On occasion, the referee finds himself in the thick of the action.

Whether it's cheating their way to victory or physically attacking them, these superstars are a referees worst nightmare.

Jake "the Snake" Roberts

1 of 10

Jake "the Snake" Roberts was one of the first to use psychological warfare in the squared circle.

The man would find your worst fear and then use it against you. Often times this would involve bringing a big snake into the ring and setting it free upon his opponent.

I don't believe a giant python contributes to a safe and happy work place for a WWE official.

Eddie Guerrero

2 of 10

"I lie, I cheat, I steal."

It's right there in his theme song. Eddie Guerrero does whatever it takes to win.

Often times this would include tossing an opponent a chair and faking an injury to win a match. Guerrero's tactics earned him the win many times during his title reigns.

A referee turning his back for a few moments would allow Latino Heat enough time to set the scene for a win.

Kane

3 of 10

Not that Kane is really a stable human being these days, but when he first broke onto the scene in 1997, Kane was a referee's nightmare come to life.

Standing nearly 7'0", Kane's physical appearance was enough to intimidate officials. Add in his "super human" powers and you have yourself one difficult man to control in the ring.

The Big Show

4 of 10

For the most part, The Big Show is the gentile giant.

That was not true when Big Show first came to WWE as part of Mr. McMahon's Corporation faction. His debut was frightening as he ripped through the canvas and tossed Stone Cold Steve Austin through a cage wall.

How could a referee hope to control the largest athlete in the world while he was taking orders from the CEO?

The Undertaker

5 of 10

The deadman from Death Valley.

Much like his brother Kane, The Undertaker not only has intimidating size, but also has displayed some "supernatural" powers as well. Not to mention the man has returned from the dead multiple times.

How can a referee expect to maintain control and order with such a powerful and imposing figure in the ring?

The answer is you can only hope The Undertaker doesn't feel the need to take your soul along with his opponents.

Mankind

6 of 10

Mankind was a referees worst nightmare for two reasons.

One, the man was unstable, and was a few fries short of a happy meal.

The other being you didn't know if he was still breathing in some of his matches. The amount of punishment he could take was unreal, and left many referees questioning if they should call for the bell.

Whether it was ripping his own hair out or falling off the top of a cell, you knew something just wasn't right with Mankind.

Ted DiBiase

7 of 10

"Everyone has a price."

So the saying goes for the Million Dollar Man, Ted DiBiase.

DiBiase felt he could buy anything and anyone under the sun. The most famous of these incidents came when DiBiase attempted to buy the WWE championship from Hulk Hogan.

This lead to DiBiase hiring an impersonator for a referee that would count Hogan out even though he clearly kicked out before three.

DiBiase was a nightmare for referees because he called your ethics into question. Do you want to call a fair match or do you want to make some money?

The Outsiders

8 of 10

A two for one special.

The Outsiders came to WCW and literally took over live broadcasts. They would interrupt matches in progress just to get on the mic and tell everyone what they had to say.

And once the NWO was officially formed, if a referee happened to be in their way, you could bet they'd be getting some new ink on their backs along with their next victim.

The Outsiders invaded WCW with the intention of causing havoc, which they were very successful at.

Stone Cold Steve Austin

9 of 10

The man built a career around raising hell on national television.

As Jim Ross used to say, "The Rattlesnake is always ready to strike."

If the ref wasn't calling the match the way he wanted, you could bet a Stone Cold Stunner was coming his way.

Austin didn't care who he attacked during his beer drinkin'-hell raisin furies, which meant a ref had his work cut out for him if he wanted to maintain order.

The Miz & R Truth

10 of 10

These two men are the modern version of The Outsiders.

After being fired by COO Triple H, the two men showed up at the Hell in the Cell pay-per-view flaunting their front-row tickets.

The men were eventually escorted outside the building. Or so we thought.

Later in the night, the two men reappeared and attacked everything in their sights with lead pipes. This attack included the referee and camera men who happened to be trapped in the cell with them.

The duo actually caused a work stoppage as many WWE superstars walked out on HHH citing mass chaos, mainly from the result of Miz and R Truth's attack.
