WWE Vengeance 2011: 11 Bold Predictions for WWE's Next Pay-Per-View

Drake OzOct 13, 2011

Surprise, surprise...another WWE pay-per-view is almost upon us.

It seems like we have a PPV just about every other week, and the upcoming Vengeance show will be the third one in just over a month.

I could rant all day about how ridiculous it is to book pay-per-views so close together, but I'm not going to do that. Instead, I'm going to take a look at the first Vengeance pay-per-view since 2007, and how it may play out once it's all said and done.

We only have three matches announced so far, so this will be a lot of speculation on my part. But that's what I'm here to do anyway, right?

Here are 11 bold predictions for WWE's next pay-per-view, Vengeance, which will take place next Sunday in San Antonio, Texas.

11. Air Boom Defeats Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler to Retain Tag Team Titles

1 of 11

As much as we've complained about the lack of a tag team division over the last few years, we can't really do that right now.

Sure, there still aren't a ton of tag teams in the WWE. But the ones that are fighting over the WWE Tag Team Championships (Air Boom and the team of Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger) are as exciting to watch as any tag teams we've seen in the PG era.

Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne successfully defended their titles in the first match between these two teams at Hell in a Cell, but it's been pretty clear that the feud between them isn't over.

I think we'll see a rematch between these two duos at Vengeance, and I think Air Boom will get the win. They're likely going to be together for the foreseeable future, while Ziggler and Swagger are going to split and move on as singles competitors.

In what should be another good tag team bout next Sunday, Air Boom will squeak out another victory, though it won't come easy.

10. Maryse Will Return as a Babyface and Become Beth Phoenix's Next Challenger

2 of 11

Kelly Kelly will likely use her rematch clause against Beth Phoenix at Vengeance, and that will mark the fourth consecutive pay-per-view where those two have wrestled for the Divas Championship.

Enough is enough, though, and it's time for Beth to move on to her next challenger. So, how about Maryse?

She's been absent from WWE TV for quite a while, and whenever WWE stars miss that much time, they often return as a babyface even if they were a heel beforehand.

It would certainly make sense for the smoking hot, "Barbie doll" Maryse to return to battle the Divas of Doom (and more specifically, Beth Phoenix) because, much like Kelly Kelly, she's the "model type" Diva that Beth and Natalya seem to hate.

I think the fans would react well to Maryse returning as a babyface, and I can't see many people complaining about Kelly Kelly being out of the Divas title picture.

9. The Two Sin Caras Will Have Another Huge Flop of a Match

3 of 11

Did you see the Sin Cara (azul) vs. Sin Cara (negro) match at Hell in a Cell?

The crowd was completely dead for it, and the match was one of the biggest pay-per-view flops of the year.

The WWE Universe doesn't seem to be reacting that well to this Sin Cara/Sin Cara feud, and I'm not sure why WWE officials think that shoving it down our throats is going to change that. Yet, that's likely exactly what they'll do.

I fully expect to see the two Sin Caras get another singles match at Vengeance, and though their lucha libre styles would suggest we'd see an entertaining bout, I think we'll get the exact opposite.

A bore. A snoozefest. A bathroom break.

8. It Will Be John Morrison's Last-Ever WWE Pay-Per-View Appearance

4 of 11

If you don't know by now, John Morrison's current WWE contract is almost up, and he's not expected to return to the company.

I'm a big fan of Morrison, so I have to admit that I would be highly disappointed if he left. But, based on the way he's been booked the last several months, I also can't say that I'd be even slightly surprised if he and the WWE did part ways.

It just doesn't seem that Morrison and the WWE are on the same page, so he's likely gone once his contract expires.

I have to assume that "very soon" means within the next month or two, and I can't see Morrison getting any sort of big push or spot in a high-profile match at Survivor Series if he's already got one foot out the door.

Though it pains me to say this, it looks like Morrison's last WWE pay-per-view appearance could very well come at Vengeance.

7. Mark Henry Will Beat the Big Show...Clean

5 of 11

Raise your hand if you're excited to see The Big Show wrestle Mark Henry at Vengeance.

I'm looking for hands...still looking...Ah, I can't find any.

Seriously, I don't know anyone who's truly thrilled to see a match between these two behemoths, and the only way I'd be willing to sit through it is if I knew Henry was going to win. Clean.

He's getting the monster push at the moment, and he's already beaten Randy Orton clean on consecutive pay-per-views. So, why would you have him win dirty (or lose)to The Big Show next Sunday?

That would definitely hurt his momentum, and given that he's one of the most interesting characters on WWE TV at the moment, I really don't want to see that happen.

I think the WWE brass realize they've got a good thing going with Henry and will give him the clean pin on Big Show to keep him looking like an unstoppable monster.

6. Christian's New Heel Stable Will Beat Down Sheamus Post-Match

6 of 11

How awesome is that heel stable you're looking at?

If you take out David Otunga, it's phenomenal, and as long as Otunga's talking and not wrestling, it's still nothing short of great.

I'm not sure if all of those guys are going to stick together and become a true faction, or if this is just a temporary thing. But I do think we'll see them together for the foreseeable future, and they'll all work together to help each other pick up victories, win titles, etc.

Christian is more than likely going to wrestle Sheamus at Vengeance, and I'd bet my bottom dollar that some of Captain Charisma's new buddies make some sort of appearance during/after this match.

I'm not sure whether Christian wins dirty, Sheamus wins clean or the heels interrupt the match and cause a disqualification. But I think the end result will be the same no matter what: Sheamus getting destroyed by all the heels to help set up a 5-on-5 match at Survivor Series.

5. Alberto Del Rio Will Retain the WWE Championship Against John Cena

7 of 11

The WWE Championship gets passed around more than an easy college freshman, so I think many of us are expecting to see the WWE hotshot the title back onto John Cena at Vengeance.

Nah, it's not happening.

I know Cena losing on two consecutive pay-per-views seems damn near impossible, but if Randy Orton can do it, then so can he.

Bank on ADR defeating Cena at Vengeance (even if there's a dirty finish) and the world imploding as a result.

4. The Miz and R-Truth Will Be on the Receiving End of Superkicks

8 of 11

Vengeance takes place in Shawn Michaels' hometown of San Antonio, Texas, and the WWE Hall of Famer is rumored to appear at the show.

Consider me a happy man.

It would be a nice treat for the live crowd (and us at home) if HBK appeared, and it actually makes sense storyline-wise as well. With Triple H and CM Punk battling The Miz and R-Truth and just about everyone seemingly against Triple H at the moment, it's likely that there will be a point during this match that The Game needs some help.

Who better than his best friend, HBK, to rise to the occasion and do just that?

The crowd would go absolutely bonkers if HBK simply appeared, but a superkick or two to The Miz and Truth would blow the roof off the building.

3. Kevin Nash Will Help The Miz and R-Truth Defeat Triple H and CM Punk

9 of 11

Kevin Nash has been off WWE TV for a while now, apparently to film a movie about a male stripper. Insert jokes here.

But he's going to be back at some point, and logic says that John Lauriniatis will re-hire him, bring him back at Vengeance and have him return during The Miz and R-Truth's tag team bout against Triple H and CM Punk.

Obviously, the plan would be for Nash to lay out both Punk and Triple H, thus allowing Miz and Truth to get the victory and prevent Triple H from regaining control of Monday Night Raw.

I have a nagging feeling that Triple H and Punk will go over at the pay-per-view, but the best long-term booking would be to have Nash cost them the match, which would build toward a huge 5-on-5 match at Survivor Series.

I'm going to trust the WWE on this one and say that Nash will indeed return, he will destroy the babyfaces and allow Punk and Miz to pick up the huge win.

2. Kane Will Return and Attack Mark Henry

10 of 11

Mark Henry has put three WWE stars on the shelf as he's wreaked absolute havoc on Smackdown: The Great Khali, The Big Show and Kane.

The Great Khali is apparently never coming back, and The Big Show recently turned and is feuding with Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship. So, where the heck is Kane?

Well, he's still on the sidelines at the moment, but that's not going to last too much longer.

The Big Red Monster is scheduled to return at any moment, and I can think of no better time for him to return than at Vengeance, where he will lay out the World's Strongest Man following his match with The Big Show.

After all, Kane is famous for wanting vengeance.

1. Cody Rhodes Will Beat Randy Orton in an Intercontinental Championship Match

11 of 11

At Hell in a Cell, Cody Rhodes promised that he would defend his new Intercontinental Championship as much as possible, and that he would bring back the prestige the title once had when it was held by guys like Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.

Well, a great way to do that is by putting his title on the line against one of the WWE's top main event stars, Randy Orton.

Orton has already lost two consecutive pay-per-view matches (clean, I might add) so losing yet another one, for a mid-card title nonetheless, would do a lot to quiet The Viper's haters.

I can't see Orton losing clean to Rhodes, especially now that Rhodes seems to be buddies with a lot of other heels, but I can certainly see Rhodes successfully defending his title against Orton at Vengeance.

Rhodes is on a roll at the moment, and Orton can rebound from a loss here.

It would do wonders for Rhodes, the WWE and even Orton for one of the company's top two stars to wrestle for a secondary title...and lose.

Will it happen, though? Yep, I think it will.
