WWE Monday Night Raw SuperShow Recap: 5 Best Moments of the Night
The WWE Monday Night Raw SuperShow was in full effect last night, and Bleacher Report is here to break down the five best moments from the show.
Last night's episode was a curious one, with a long opening that was both unique and compelling, but fell apart after Triple H was fired from his position as COO by none other than Vince McMahon.
Vince's return was short, as he only stuck around long enough to replace Triple H with John Laurinaitis.
The rest of the show felt scattered, and had little direction. Regardless, there were some memorable moments that stood out from the pack.
One such moment includes the return of a dastardly duo, but was it enough to top the classic intro that proved to good to be true?
Mason Ryan Towers over a 6-Man Tag Team Match
1 of 5I'll be honest with you all, this moment wasn't all that special, but it made it in by default.
Although the match was average at best, and the six-man tag match is becoming a little too regular for my tastes, there are a few positives to take away from it.
Mason Ryan is large and in charge. He's larger than life, and we all know that fits Vince McMahon's criteria for a traditional WWE champion. I need to see him in a full-length singles match before I can give a fresh opinion on him.
It's always nice to see Vickie Guerrero's heel stable at work, and they were certainly doing work tonight. David Otunga actually fits in quite well, and I think he's best off working alongside Vickie to develop his mic skills.
After Air Boom and Mason Ryan won, Evan Bourne was laid out, looking as though he injured his shoulder or neck. He may have just been selling the last powerbomb he ate from Swagger, but I'm leaning towards legit on this one.
John Laurinaitis Welcomes the Protesters Back to Raw
2 of 5This was a simple moment, but simple is hardly a bad thing in wrestling. If only creative teams would remember that.
After being declared "Interim Raw General Manager" by WWE's Board of Directors, John Laurinaitis went backstage and greeted all the protesting WWE Superstars as they entered the arena.
He shared a moment with John Morrison, who said even though Triple H was bad, Laurinaitis "absolutely sucks."
Funny thing about that line, is that UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen, who has caught a lot of heat for cutting Professional Wrestling promos in MMA, used that very line this past weekend at UFC 136 in reference to Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. Curious fact that I thought I'd share.
Johnny Ace gave JoMo a match against Christian, who was sure to score brownie points with the new boss by saying he should be the official GM, not interim.
Randy Ortons Vengeance Is Interrupted by Cody Rhodes
3 of 5After a heated Mark Henry promo targeted the Big Show, Randy Orton came to the ring claiming that vengeance would be his.
The match was quick and to the point, with Orton getting the upper hand. Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes didn't let Orton get the victory though, interfering in the match as Orton was on the verge of getting the pin.
Orton had nearly beaten down both men, but Rhodes shoved him into Mark Henry, and was hit with the World's Strongest Slam.
Henry left the ring angry that he didn't get to win because of the DQ, and Rhodes entered the ring again to leave his mark on the battered Randy Orton.
Rhodes hit him with the Cross Rhodes, then "bagged" him with a brown paper bag.
Hopefully this means we get a Rhodes/Orton feud on SmackDown, as I feel that Rhodes is ready to step things up and look to become a top heel in the company.
John Laurinaitis Brings Back Awesome Truth
4 of 5Did I really call these two a "dastardly duo" in the intro slide of this slideshow? It's not often you can use that description and it actually be fitting.
As CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio faced each other in the main event of Raw, the interim Raw GM came out and declared that the match was over, and now there would be a tag team match.
CM Punk and Del Rio were going to team up and face none other than Awesome Truth in their return to the WWE ring.
They performed their "You Suck" intro, and then put on a pretty good tag team match.
Del Rio bailed on Punk, acting as though he was injured and leaving Punk to face Awesome Truth on his own. Eventually, Punk was on the verge of victory, but the two jumped him and got themselves disqualified.
This led to the end of Raw, where Triple H ran out to make the save, with he and Punk chasing them off.
To close the show, Laurinaitis made a tag team match at Vengeance between Triple H/CM Punk and Awesome Truth.
Raw's Opening Teases Fans with the Show That Could Have Been
5 of 5There was plenty of speculation going into this episode of Raw in regards to how the show would look, and be presented.
There were no referees, no announcers, and barely any superstars to be found. The show must go on, but how?
Raw opened with camera shots of an empty announce table, and an empty backstage area. Triple H exited his office and came to the ring, to say that he'd wrestle a broomstick for two hours if he had to.
John Cena, Sheamus, and CM Punk came out to let the WWE COO know that they weren't going anywhere, and intended on sticking it out.
Triple H decided the opening match would be Sheamus vs. John Cena, he would be the referee, and CM Punk would be the announcer and bell keeper. It was unique, compelling and fun.
After the first commercial break, things came to a screeching halt when Vince McMahon's music hit, and he came to the ring. Vince cleared everyone out but Triple H, then replaced him with John Laurinaitis.
What could have been if WWE had let Vince show up and make the replacement towards the end of the show? Did the storyline had to be pushed along so quickly? I don't know, but I wish we could have seen a little more, and judging from general fan reaction, so do the masses.
How did you feel about this episode of Raw, and what did your best five moments look like?
