NFL Picks Week 6: Baltimore Ravens and 3 Well-Rested Teams That Will Win

Josh MartinOct 11, 2011

Week 5 of the 2011 NFL season was a restful one for six lucky teams that had Sunday off on account of a bye.

Not all of them will be so lucky as to win upon their return, though these three teams figure to put that rest to good use with wins in Week 6.

The Ravens, who entered their break with a record of 3-1, will get back down to business of winning football games when the Texans trot into Charm City. Houston is fresh off a loss at home to the Raiders and will be without wide receiver Andre Johnson and sack master Mario Williams, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral muscle.

That bodes well for Baltimore, whose offensive line will have one less threat to worry about in protecting Joe Flacco from harassment. Also, not that this necessarily means anything, but the Ravens have never lost to the Texans, with wins in each of their four previous meetings.

Speaking of the Raiders, their next task—defeating the Browns at home—won't be as easy as one might think. Yes, Oakland has a terrific ground game, behind running back Darren McFadden, and will likely run all over Cleveland's defense, which ranks 26th in the NFL against opposing rushing attacks.

But these Browns are tougher than most might expect. They won't blow anyone away anytime soon, but they should be able to take advantage of a Raiders team that didn't play particularly well in Houston and that may be a bit emotionally drained after playing their hearts out to honor the memory of Al Davis.

No team is in better position to win after its bye week than Washington. The Redskins will resume their schedule with a home game against the 1-4 Eagles, who haven't won since their season opener and have had their collective ego bruised and battered in the process.

The 'Skins didn't exactly look like world beaters themselves before the break, scoring wins against the Giants, the Cardinals and the Rams while losing at Dallas. That being said, Washington sports a surprisingly strong defense and steady quarterback play from Rex Grossman in a division that's so severely lacking in solid signal calling.

Look for DC's revamped pass rush, which notched 15 sacks in its first four games, to make minced meat of Michael Vick and the Eagles' onerous offensive line.
